July Ratings

L.A. Ratings Grid here.

Riverside-San Bernardino Ratings Grid here.

The July 2010 survey period is from Thu. 6/24/10-Wed. 7/21/10. The next survey period is for August 2010 running from Thu. 7/22/10-Wed. 8/18/10 with the publicly released age 6+ overall data available on Friday 9/10/10.

L.A. radio ratings are boring now, there seem to be no changes. It seems as if there will never be change.

Yes Your Right But the Only Big Surprise Is KIIS Is Up Almost A Full Point

I bet KIIS will probably get higher and get the same amount of ratings like sister KISS 108 Boston. Looks like AMP has a long way to go.

Nothing really surprising this month...

... except KTWV reportedly in a 25-54 tie with KOST. And another of the CC FMs looking more like KFI-FM every month. Oh, and Spanish language stations totally churned by World Cup. And KSWD looking better and better, although slowly. And the big question is, "if Seacrest does not leave (maybe the Kardashians are not making him as much money as he wanted ;D ) KIIS, what is Amp good for?

CBS should just kill "The Wave" and put on "Fresh 94.7". Isn't about the same thing as KOST playlist-wise? Besides, NY's Fresh is actually doing pretty well recently, DC's Fresh is showing progress, and Chicago's Fresh station... don't know what to say about this one.

How about KSPN losing almost half its audience in one month? Did the Lakers make THAT much difference?

Also when is the last time the Top 12 (6+) featured ZERO Spanish language stations?

Fresh is a great name for a bright, modern AC. It is not a good name for what is essentially a soft or traditional "easy" AC... with the high TSL customary for this format. The challenge is only to continue to improve 25-54.

And... today's format is evolutionary and capitalizes on the 15 years of familiarity with the "Wave" brand... which is a great LA name, anyway.

They are now top 10 in 12+, so why tell the existing listeners "we've chanded, so reconsider whether you want to listen to us any more" rather than just continuing to please them?

The change is similar to the one KLAC had post-season

As mentioned, there was extreme disruption of listening during the four weeks of World Cup, three of which were in the July book (half of which was in June).

Ongoing ratings have confirmed my suspicions. I must be the only only one listening to KCSN-FM. In that case, I take back what I said before. No need to hire jocks (or even interns) to backannounce the records for little ol' me.

I am officially starting the 92.3 KFI-FM watch now. I know they don't want to write off a bunch of goodwill related to an impaired AM property (which is what the 640 AM signal will be as soon as a move is made to FM), but sooner or later cash economics has to take precedence over historical accounting.

What FM would CC want to simulcast KFI on? All of them seem to be doing well ratings wise (even KFI itself), why kill off another successful station for something that most likely won't really do anything ratings wise? I don't think Seacrest will leave KIIS, but it makes a great story though. AMP will NEVER beat out KIIS! KIIS has a wider playlist, and actually plays all the hits! Being the MD of AMP must be the easiest job in the world, just play songs that hot on the charts at the moment, take out all the rock, country, and soft hits, and only play music that makes people move. Even calling AMP a Rhythmic CHR would be wrong because they don't even go deep into playing songs by "Rhythmic" artists.

Of course Seacrest wouldn't consider leaving KIIS after he basically called them out on the air a few months ago for not letting him talk as much as he wants to! ;) With so many projects under his shoulder (no surprise there) especially in producing, he might have to cut out one to make more room for his other more profitable ventures. He obviously makes dough with the Idol folks (although there might not be any life left on that show after the departure of Simon Cowell), he seems to be producing a growing number of shows (like a new dance show he's producing on E!) and I'm sure he doesn't make nothing off of that, and two product endorcement deals with Crest and Scope must also make him some good cash. What deals might he drop, the first might be his deal with E! News, which is expiring in 2012 and which he only makes around $10 million a year doing. And the second deal he might drop is radio. I would be surprised if Seacrest makes around what he does for his other jobs doing morning drivetime for KIIS. He even stated that part of the reason he does radio is because of the passion he has for it. But wouldn't that passion fade away after he's been told to "cut the chatter and play the hits"? CC LA is obviously investigating the possible fate of "what would happen..." of this situation because without Seacrest or a strong successor, the competition between AMP and KIIS would intensify to the max. Mornings on AMP are seeming to get stronger, especially with key woman demos on AMP. Carson Daly is a fairly recognizable name to the likes of the key demos who listen to both these stations, especially the Women 18-34 demographic who recognize him from TRL stardom. But KIIS doesn't have a Carson Daly, people are rumoring that Damien Fahey might take over mornings, but then think about it, Damien isn't the real thing that the MTV crowd would embrace on the airwaves, in fact, Damien started hosting after the peak of the popularity of TRL when Carson decided to tackle his new late night show on NBC. Part of the success of Seacrest's morning show was based on Seacrest's rising personality on television. KIIS would have to find a STRONG replacement, somewhere along Seacrest's measure if they want to keep up being stacked up high against AMP.

Here Are Top 4

1...KIIS FM (CHR/Pop)
2...KRTH FM (Oldies/Classic Hits)
3...KAMP FM (CHR/Pop)
4...KPWR FM (CHR/Rhy)

Wow! Its not that often that you see 3 Top 40s in the top 4, especially in Los Angeles.
