July Ratings

Well, according to the beauty numbers on Radio Online, the Atlanta FM station was apparently already suffering low ratings: 35+ stations ahead of them, including HD2's and HD3's. One could say, perhaps, they weren't rating at all.

WJZA is not subscribed to Nielsen, so the ratings would not appear in the public data release.

The station has been averaging a 0.1 from January through June... some months it does not show, others it does. In "Real" terms, that means an average audience size of about 300 persons in a market of just under 6 million.

Why are we discussing Atlanta ratings on a Seattle board? Focus, people!

Focus is good for a grid dip meter, but threads can be allowed to deviate a bit from the "center". The subject of smooth jazz came up in a Seattle context, and some evidence about the surviving station in the format nationally brought light to the lack of viability of the format here, there or anywhere.

So long as it suits a moderator's preference?

Despite a forum already on this subject, it's good drive the Smooth Jazz into the ground so long as KWJZ is cited for that "Seattle context"? To top it off, it's a moderator discussing Panama City and Atlanta and "here there and everywhere" in the Seattle forum.

Normally I couldn't give a rip, but it pisses me off the nanosecond news about a person in Seattle radio passes on, the thread automatically gets banished to another forum.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Hypocrisy? It's called 'In Memorium.' That forum is used for any radio or TV person who died, whether a DJ in Pittsburgh, a weatherman in Houston, or Aretha Franklin.

As far as threads go, this one has been fairly focused.

I believe that the longest running thread on these boards is the "Lamptimer" one on the PHX section. Started to comment on the inconsistent sign-off times of a local daytimer, the thread has gone from discussing at least one well known PHX morning show host to Bang 545 to the weather in Tolleson. And it has been perhaps the most entertaining of the radio threads on the board.

The moderation is kind of a like a PD who plays the music THEY want instead of sticking to the format and playing what the LISTENERS want.
Sure, a handful of listeners might be entertaining for a little while, but long term it's a failure when people aren't getting what they expect.

Rob,

The purpose of moderation on this board is intended to principally prevent personal insults, use of obscene or offensive language promotion of illegal activities, accusations that belong in a court of law or FCC administrative hearing, and blatant trolling.

Occasionally if a thread really belongs in another section of the site, it will be moved.

You'll find that the Seattle-Tacoma board has rarely had a post deleted, and then the usual cause is offensive language.

Sparring is OK, but don't bring a machete to the fight.

Otherwise, the moderation is quite "gentle" to permit threads to explore derivative ideas and to occasionally "take the road less traveled".
