July ratings

https://ratings.****************/content/arb047

It looks like WSB got a boast over the Biden bad debate and Trump getting wounded. I can only guess WCNN got a lot of folks that couldn't watch the games on TV. Caller 10 should be happy with WSB FM'S streaming and OTA numbers. Were the River and 99X listeners on vacation?

The July PPM ended the 17th of July. The Olympics did not begin until 9 days later. So the July PPM book did not even come close to covering anything except pre-Olympics broadcasts.

Here are PPM survey dates. Note that most calendar months don't match the survey "month" and that the PPM year has 13 "months".

I forgot not everybody knows the games on WCNN are Braves baseball. I don't consider the Olympics. If you want to fix my post.

No sweat. It is clear from your followup post!

Well, Cox Media Group has to be happy!

As far as The River and 99X, it’s only 1 month. Funny things can happen in an individual month.

That said, The River does have some (almost) direct competition, 102.1/100.1 Fox FM, which does not subscribe to Nielsen Audio and therefore can’t encode. The music on Fox FM sounds to me like it’s been getting closer to The River’s lately, but Fox FM is on much smaller signals.

I'd like to know how much P1 audience overlap there is between River, 99X, and WSB (AM). Things have certainly gotten interesting on the political front and WSB is seeing the benefit.

I think WSB 95.5 & AM 750 (It hurts my heart they no longer mention the AM) has made some good programming moves.

The morning news seems easier to listen to. There is more variety of voices and topics.

Mark Arum has gone from being a modern Ludlo Porch to a news driven show. I drive around a lot and Mark's show is my favorite. There are long from interviews daily with Bloomberg, ABC Radio, and NBC Radio. He covers topics long form. The show is truly balanced.

Getting Hannity off of the daytime was a very good move. As WSB seems to be slightly moderating, Hannity just did not fit.

At the other end, I will I am not a fan of Winters.

Overall, the new program guy (forgot his name) has made some positive moves.

Is WPZE an LMA? It has always been New Mableton Broadcasting since they signed on.

I don’t think so. If you look at the official ownership of for instance some iHeart or Cumulus stations on Radio Locator, it shows the name of a former owner. I suppose it’s just how corporations are legally set up, That said, I’m not the most qualified person to speak on this subject.

Below is what I found on FCCdata.org.

WPZE
MABLETON GA

Channel 273 (102.5 MHz)
RDS PI Code: 7ed2
RadioDNS: FM
NEW MABLETON BROADCASTING CORPORATION

SILVER SPRING MD 20910

Facility ID: 24562
Licensed
HD Radio digital hybrid

I found a little history on Wikipedia, but it seems fuzzy to me why the station is still licensed to New Mableton Broadcasting. Oh well. I too sleepy to look further.

In April 2004, Radio One acquired the New Mableton Broadcast Corporation for approximately $35 million. Radio One operated 102.5 FM under a local marketing agreement (LMA) beginning in August 2001. Radio One then completed this acquisition during the fourth quarter of 2004, under the name ROA Licenses (Radio One Atlanta Licenses), which also owned WJZZ-FM, WPZE, and WHTA.

Often it is more expensive to change all the papers related to a station than to keep the "old" name as a subsidiary of the buyer.

There is so much paperwork: leases, property titles, tax accounts for city, state and national, utility billing, Social Security accounts for staff, insurance, bank accounts and more.

Most stations today are owned by a corporation,, not an individual. So the shares change hands, but the company remains the same.

While the name was originated by the former owner, its ownership transferred with the sale.

As typical the FCC links time out and I get the "FCC Website error" message but on the FCCdata.org link above, if you scroll down it shows New Mapleton to ROA LLC Licenses 12/19/05 then just below that It shows New Mapleton to Radio One Licenses 12/31/2013. Never paid much attention to Radio One but since I can't down load either assignment of License documents, was ROA LLC part of Radio One?

There are still current FCC records that list the ownership of WCNN's towers in Peachtree Corners as Ring Radio Company. Oddly, not ALL 8 of them, as I recall.

ROA=Radio One Atlanta? (Not Radio Orphan Annie, as it said on the decoder pins.)

@secondchoice, I was falling asleep at the keyboard and did not look closely. Thanks for being awake for me. :)

Out of market poster here… is WWPW signal bad? I know that WWLW got the worse deal but IHM swapped frequencies of them & WRDG there doesn’t seem to be much boon to either.

A .4 is astoundingly awful even for a rimshot that looks capable of hitting a lot of the market.

It has poor coverage in the northern and eastern suburbs.

It also directly competes with Cumulus's class C0 broadcasting from intown that doesn't have this issue.
