I really wish I could get 1360 on my radio, instead I'm stuck with podcast from the shows.

I like Rational Radio- The Talk You've been missing. Seems like a ZING to 105.3.

Jimmy I'm sorry.

AWESOME!!! First appearance that I've seen in the Arb's for 1360 since 1976 (KXOL)...and they're tied with KAAM right off the bat. (Now to be fair, these are 25-54 numbers, whereas KAAM is ranked a runaway #1 in the 125-154 demo.) ;D

BTW, anyone have the June 2008 extrap's to see if 1360 made any kind of mark in any demo during our RetroRadio trial? Even a blip of a 0.1 would make me feel pretty good!

Congrats to KEOM, knocking off WRR, The Bone Quantity Rock 93.3, KSKY and most of the Spanish stations! Love to see the non-com's knock the com's down a few pegs.

WBAP...wow. I guess listeners were already steering away, anticipating the looming change in traffic services. ;D (but up the spread to age 64 and I bet they have a much better showing.)

I realize the new format has only been on the air since the April, but that is an all-time low for 93.3. They ran off people who did discover it and listened to it in its first month (0.7 last month to 0.4 this month in the 6+). It's now drawing almost the same number of listeners as KLAK and KFWR do. Given that KFWR has no sort of decent signal to 70% of the market and KLAK is mostly limited to Collin County for its signal, the 93.3 rating is shockingly low.

It looks like KRLD-FM must have picked up some listeners from KESN. Now that a big chunk of the line-up has been let go, I wonder if that will reverse next month. KTCK seems to have lost no audience. This seems to be a classic case of when you have two stations in the format and one fairly dominant, when a 3rd comes along, the previous #2 pays the price; if you were already everyone's second choice, that audience is not going to be afraid to try the new station.

I know no one cares about Spanish-language radio (I don't listen to it...but I generally just find how stations compete with each other interesting), but it seems like Univision really made a mistake dealing with KMVK's flip from "Movin'" to "Mega." Moving "La Kalle" from KFZO 99.1 to KESS-FM 107.9 and converting it to a similar Spanish hot AC format has really sunk the ratings on that facility. It wasn't that long ago that KESS-FM was #1 overall in the market with regional Mexican. Seems like Liberman also came out ahead with KBOC and KNOR with the previous regional Mexican format on KESS-FM moved to the weaker 99.1/107.1 facilities.

Mike,

Regarding KEOM, they have been stuck in the mid 30s in the 25-54 demo, for as long as I can remember. If you want to really highlight how a non-comm beats the big guys, look at KERA. They were 21st in the 25-54 demo in June.

As far as KEOM goes, that station is becoming more and more unlistenable as each day passes. They were trying to duplicate KLUV, musically, last time I listened. That station has totally lost the unique factor, and their current manager Brooks is a pain in the butt.

I read a column in the Mesquite News about her, a few months back. It was talking about how p/o she got over nicknames a couple of former staff members were using, and how she went to Dr. Griffin and whined about it. Come on, that's big radio crap, and doesn't belong in educational radio. From what all I know about her, she doesn't belong in a management role for an educational program.

The last time 1360 showed up in the ratings was the Fall 2003 book, when it scored a 0.4. 1976 was the last time the frequency had greater than a one share. (1.5 in the Oct/Nov survey)

1360 did not show up in any form during 2008, even in Maximiser which shows stations below minimum reporting levels.

FM93.3's sister in Houston pulled a 0.6. Although KHJK Is called JACK FM it is the same format as KDBN.

Why doesn't KTCU show up in the ratings? ???

KTCU has yet to garner enough listening to show up in a monthly book. It has shown up sporadically in a few weekly trends, but not enough to even manage a 0.1 in share.

I saw tons of criticism of the old classic rock format on KDBN yet it never did this bad. AAA is not a PPM friendly format. I know it's early but this isn't a good sign.

I am having trouble believing that the PPM's are 100% accurate... or maybe Cumulus needs to promote 93.3 a little. The playlist of Mix is not that much different than FM93.3.
KDMX Mix 102.9 (#2 25-54):

So, perhaps 93.3 needs to throw in some Kelly Clarkson and Pink and then they can be in the top ten as well???

Personally I prefer the music on 93.3 compared to that sample hour for KDMX. But being familiar is hugely important with PPM.

KDBN has done NO marketing that I've seen, and they've been on the air just about a month by the time this book started. And i think very few of the 'Boneheads' are/were going to be fans of 'Quality Rock". They need to create an audience from scratch...

I know times are tough but sometimes you have to spend money to make money. How about throwing up a couple billboards, maybe a few TV spots and hiring a LOCAL morning show... doesn't have to be an entire "team" but live and local counts! Just play music... give the traffic and the weather and lose The Irregular Guys!

I noticed that AAA WZGC/Atlanta had a good June. So I guess the format does have potential with PPM. You guys are right, they need to advertise and let people know it exists. They can't just let it sit there and expect listeners to find it.

KDBN is going to have a lot of challenges...

The problem with AAA is that it is probably the most white of all formats in terms of appeal. KKZN never had spectacular ratings and the population the 93.3 facility covers the best in the decade since it was KKZN has become even more ethnic. With KERA putting on a competitor on full market signal 91.7 this fall, KDBN is going to have a tough time building an audience. It's not helping itself with a morning talk show from Atlanta that is incompatible with the rest of the day either.

Mike - Thanks for noticing - and thanks for the post. The numbers we are seeing are even sweeter than what is posted on RI. :)

WRONG! Your numbers were far better before PPM. PPM killed you guys. By the way, where did the MISD come up with the money for PPM data? The data is far more expensive than the older diary system. And even then, didn't you guys only get like two of the four diary reports?

And now some factual information.

The current numbers posted on RI for KEOM are 6+ numbers. Yes those numbers are higher than what they were under the diary system. HOWEVER, that system was based on 12+ numbers, not 6+. If I recall correctly, KEOM’s highest 12+ numbers were right at 100,000. So the increase KEOM is seeing now is to be expected with the changeover to the PPM system.

Where Chris is incorrect is with regard to the 25 – 54 demographics. In that overall demo, KEOM is currently #33. KEOM has been at or slightly below that position, since the PPM system hit this market. KERA is whooping KEOM’s ass in the 25 – 54 demos. So while Chris “thinks” KEOM’s current numbers are sweet, it seems to me like he doesn't know or grasp quite fully that these differences are based on two different systems.

Simply put, KEOM is not seeing substantial growth, since 6+ PPM numbers are as worthless as 12+ diary numbers.
