K-104.7 Format Change!

You heard it here first!

Yes there has been a format change, to their website! They have taken down the Jocks section. I'll bet the CBS spies saw our posts here in another thread and told management what was being said about the station. Uh oh I'm in trouble again!! You see back when I worked there a couple of us who post here were told to knock it off and not post things about the Mighty K.

I guess I can forget about dropping off the tape and resume as long as John Reynolds is there, rats! Oh well if I'm going to burn a bridge I might as well get a good fire going!

Props to Chad Rock who used to work at Kiss 95.1. Before they axed him he detailed his firing from the station on Facebook. That took some guts in my opinion and I'll bet CBS Charlotte management was not too pleased....brilliant, he got the last word!

Okay I better knock it off I'll bet the Radio-Info people will remove this post but hey I'm just having fun! ;D

I hope your right. It's time for them to switch. Maybe if they do, they'll stop playing their small playlist of about 20 songs..

Last I heard they removed all of their talent. Holly, Wayne and Bailey and replaced them with no-name talent. They continue to play their same bland play list over and over again…some things never seem to change. Mike, you are correct; the same under educated management from what I hear are still in place. One would think CBS New York would realize those who are driving the station are going the wrong way on a one way street. Yes sir, props to Chad Rock for standing up, for not getting kicked around like a little guy.

It’s sadning to know, they had such wonderful talent not that long ago….John Robinson, Holly Haze, Wayne Landers, Bailey…The people enjoyed listening to them, they made you feel like family. Holly…wow, what a talented individual, John…Ok so he had some personal struggles, yet he delivered a fun no-nonsense show. Wayne Landers...Very upbeat delivered like a pro. Bailey…warm, pleasant made you feel as though you where sitting there with her.
John leaves for personal reasons, replaced by??? Brandon, he must be fresh off the press. Why would anyone in a market share this size with the winter book in full swing, take a gamble and place a warm body in there? (Scratching head) Nights, can’t really say much there, very bland and boring, needs some serious improvement.

We’ll just have to sit back and see what’s in-store for 2010, will the format change, will Holly be the new morning drive (that would be nice)…..Until then….

Is Holly Haze still with K104.7? If not, that's too bad...she had been there a good while and did a very good job.

CBS treats this station like absolute garbage. Like I've said before...with just a LITTLE effort, I think they could stomp Lite 102 about every book. It has a lot of potential as an AC station. CBS does fantastic with classic hits (music from '64-'85)....I don't know about AC though. I think classic hits could be tried on 104.7, they like that format and do it well.

Yes, I do beleive Holly is still there. You are correct, CBS Charlotte treats this station like a college radio station. Start cleaning house with the management first. Get some young fresh managment in there, tweak the music around, and change the shifts back to how raido should be 6-10, 10-3, 3-7 and 7-12...Even try more listener interaction...Hello!! management...listener interaction, the same people who rate your station...ever hear of them?

Oh and Mike...yes, from others I've talked with, John Reynolds is still there, no one knows exactly what he does there besides fill an office up with a lot of hot air. Better keep that tape until a new PD's in place, which I've heard from those I know in the north, that's in the works and coming soon.

I am not on the air at K104.7 anymore, although still on payroll for the time being.
All this is confusing and unwarranted, but it's radio. Nuff said huh?

If there were ever any signs of a format change K104 has all the signs air staff gone, website changing, and the list goes on. CBS has had huge success with Classic Hits in many of their larger markets and feel Charlotte is on the brink of a change! Could be wrong but as Holly said this is radio.

You mean like Star 104.7 back in the '90's? That was a fun station to listen to back in the day. But would that work with 95.7, 99.7 and 94.1 playing the same variation of songs these days? I'd say go Hot AC (80's, 90's & now), but I doubt they want to threaten Kiss down the hall.

I think Classic hits would be a good format for 104.7... Remember todays version of classic hits is a lot different then the 90's version was... If CBS were to take the WCBS, K-Earth Approach with pop hits instead of the 90's ARROW version they might hit on something that would work... I could see 104.7 even get "Sunny" kinda like down in Orlando... CC

I'm talking about classic hits from roughly 1964-1985 like WCBS, KRTH, KLUV, etc. Pop, R&B/disco, and some rock (not heavy) hits. CBS does it very well. K104.7 has always played a lot of gold material.
94.1 is not a Charlotte station.
99.7 is classic rock, not really comparable.
95.7 is....who knows. They're in their own world.

There's a void that this station could fill if it decided to function in that capacity. They would retain a lot of the K104 listeners, which holds Lite102 back and gain some new ones (a few from 95.7/99.7, and get the 94.1 listeners who can't hear Classic Hits on a better signal).

That makes lots of sense! 95.7 and 94.1 together have a fairly good share of adults and a local facility with a good signal could and in my opinion do well in Charalotte. CBS has just made a move in some of it's other markets to move stations around and if all indicators are correct Charlotte could be next. The stations have got to look for something that makes them stand out when PPM comes along. Cume and Tims Spent Listening were big with the diary and they will continue to be very important with PPM.

Indeed...and classic hits has done well with PPM.

It wouldn't matter if they brought the biggest jock in the nation over to K. If the format doesn't change it's still the same "garbage" station. In order to make a change, get rid of the consultant, clean house with the old management and change the music. It's not rocket science. The format hasn't changed in years so what's this Jo Jo going to do?....Good luck Jo Jo, hope you're not being snow balled. Jo Jo in the morning, Holly in the evening...Thoughts?

Let's get the betting pool started...My guess, JoJo will last six, maybe nine months...Who's in?

I hate to hear you won't be part of that, Holly. :(

I was looking at the station's playlist, and where are these songs?

Rob Thomas-Her Diamonds
Colbie Caillat-Fallin' For You
Michael Buble - Haven't Met You Yet
Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me

All in the AC top 5. What is the reasoning behind not playing them? What a mess of a station. Put it out of its misery CBS.

This has been in the works for some time. I mentioned some weeks ago that K104 would move to 6 hour shifts and change the staff. This move certainly screams format change. Jo Jo has lots of CHR experience in top 10 markets but still feel the station may make a change closer to Classic Hits. Time will tell!

CBS brought Jo Jo Kincaid to Q105 in Tampa and based on PPM, it worked. Must be the name. Of course they fired JoJo Walker-----go figure
