K-104 jock arrested on drug charges

Hey Buc, outside of format changes and the occasional legal troubles. What is there to discuss about Urban here in Dallas. LIVE, ZPS and the like are always the topic because the change more than Janet Jackson's weight. What is so ground breaking about Urban that deserves ink? The other stations are the topic of speculation, think of it as a soap opera for us engineers out in the sticks.

There are plenty of changes, but to be honest, most of the readers of this board don't care what black formatted stations are doing. The most connected community air personality in this market is on KKDA Soul 73 and no one knows that Willis Johnson has done mornings for over 30 years in this market. Or that former Dallas County constable Joe Bagby has been on the 970 frequency since the late 50's.

KGGR has never been mentioned on this board
KKDA has never been mentioned on this board
The only time KHVN has been mentioned is when they are going to give up the 970 stick.

None of the good things these stations do in the community are never mentioned. So its disheartening to those that care about these stations. We get 17 different topics on Russ Martin but not one talking about how Willis Johnson is helping Paul Quinn College survive. Or how KKDA promotes education with reports from PQC's president or the report about St. Phillips(a private school in South Dallas) is educating our children.

No one mentions what Rickey Smiley has done since he has been here.
No one mentions how Michael Basiden has changed urban radio. But why, because simply put, most white folk don't care about the positives, just the negatives.

As about the only white guy on here who has some passion on this topic, I have to agree salem. The big problem is you have a small sliver of that good news getting to the populace at large. Ive heard Willis do his show on soul 73, and im really impressed with some of the guests he's had over the years, not to mention see what he's been doing with PQC, something the "regular" media hasnt picked up on.. I also agree we have focused too much on that hillbilly loser Russ Martin and his troubles as of late.

I'm tired of never reading anything positive ever about Matt Erickson or any of the good folks at WRR.I realize that their classical lifestyle may not appeal to many of you contemporary listeners but these are people too.

I seriously hope buc's argument is tongue and cheek, if not, and you want to talk about someone and their accomplishments..then why don't you start a go@@amn topic!! If nothing else, it will bump some of the neverending live 105 threads off the first page. ;) Never has such an irrevelant radio station had such a prominent role in any forum.

All I'm asking for is an end to this stereotyping on this board. Sometimes, I am reluctant to even post anything on this board, because if Salem don't respond, the response will either be all negative or none at all.

Buc, I also think its not just a board issue, but a issue in the community as a whole. If stations like the FM side of KKDA or The Beat or any other young-aiming urban station would just stop with the stupidity, turn labels down who want to propagate a "idiot" stereotype and maybe get a little more mature in their selections, with artists who have a social message and decent rhyme, then you you would begin to see that spark to change the community.

I agree, not much on the topics all the fine folks are doing. Buc, Salem, I think you are missing the reason the boards are interesting. Russ Martin is an F up...we get to vent. I would be shocked if someone had posted an attaboy in a long time... I enjoy the conversation, speculation and drama. I wouldn't read too much into it and I certainly wouldn't throw the race card out.

Thursday morning, (tomorrow), 8am, K104, Hollywood tells his side of the story. Maybe we can put all of this to rest then.

So, what was his song and dance...did he pull a pacman jones and blame someone else or did he fess up? Im just curious because I have to work all day and dont get a chance to hear the local color on these things...
