K 97.5

there are several urban signals that still get into south boston VA to fill the void...they are a poorly programmed urban at best...CC raleigh..they are right for the picking CC raleigh needs to act on it.......there is a reason why WJMH and WZFX show up in raleigh arbitrons reguarly

There are areas east of South Boston that will have nothing. I'm in one of those areas. I don't like Urban music, but I know plenty of people who do, and 97.5 is it. There's nothing else; I've asked after informing them of the pending move.

WJMH has a very weak signal in South Boston, and I don't think WQMG makes it at all---otherwise, Mecklenburg, Brunswick, Nottoway, Charlotte Counties VA will no longer have ANY urban, not to mention a few counties in NC (Vance, Warren, etc) which will be very doubtful. All of these counties have a high African American population, and others who like to listen urban. 97.5 has also written off the Rocky Mount-Wilson market where they were one of the top rated stations. Radio One should be ashamed of their stupid move and the FCC should never have allowed it---97.5 has been a VA station for 40 years and had a large listenership there. R-1 is blowing them off to save money, though they are one of the top stations in Raleigh-Durham.

And that's all that matters. Raleigh. Durham. Period.

Centralized coverage is best. Same thing happened with WDCG when they moved closer to Raleigh -- now they have a solid, solid signal throughout the entire triangle area. The Triad, like parts of Virginia, really don't matter.

WYTT Emporia VA 99.5 Jamz...being only 1.2kw and a squeeze in a tight freq with co-channels and 1st adjacents in all directions still puts a listenable signal into parts of these areas..not the south boston area..they are actually decently programmed

See that's the problem I have with radio today. It just seems to serve the urban areas, while ignoring rural and outlying areas that have listeners and there COL, South Boston. I know it's busy, but the FCC should step in and make sure these folks in outlying areas can receive radio just like people in the major urban areas. Why not continue to serve both areas (Southside VA and the Triangle). It's not like it will make too big of a difference from looking at the coverage maps. Besides, most car radio (where most people listen to radio now) are able to pick up the signal just fine. I don't get what they are trying to accomplish. What happens 10-20 years down the road, when the Triangle expands to cover a larger area.
