And nearly all radio buys do not target by income but by age.

The wealthiest zip codes are all on the Westside. Check your census data. #1 is the northern part of Santa Monica, and #2 is 90210. Not saying there aren't other wealthy people around (and you can add the Beach Cities, Hancock Park, and PV to your list of other wealthy places) but the Westside is tops.

As for Arbitron designations, whatever. That wasn't my point.

Back to the K-Earth Xmas.....I've been listening and it's pretty good. They are pulling out quite a variety. Just heard a Jan and Dean Xmas song, a Three Dog Night Xmas song. Pretty rare these days to hear things you've never heard before on K-Earth. Two weeks ahead actually feels like a good time to start, too. Even December 1 is really too early.

At least Brown Eyed Girl is a bona fide classic.....  Granted, one I don't ever want to hear again, but it's a good tune.

More like a bona-fide crispy critter! As in total burn out. No doubt all the CBS oldies stations flipping to all Christmas gives their excessively time tested over researched, guaranteed alarmingly recognizable, overly regurgitated, same 180 songs, give or take a few, a rest, if ever so briefly.

Actually in the last several years KRTH has been playing a much wider variety of music than it did under the previous program directors, but I have to admit that when I hear certain songs like "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Reach Out..." I tune out as quick as I can.

bucks for 1971, no? OK, so the phoner bit was pre-recorded, but he still hit
the post nicely. (Old Gringo should ignore the hitting the post reference. ;D)

What a letdown. Last year they did the Top 1001. It was the beginning of their really starting to open up the playlist, both regularly and with things like the backward Z to A.

I was hoping they'd up the ante and do a Top 2,001.

There's a reason for everything and knowing how Jhani Kaye lives by research I'm sure he has one. Then again in today's world he could be following orders from higher up but I doubt it. WCBS is a very well run station, as I'm sure KRTH is, but New York and LA are two very different cities. For example, Doo Wop music was popular in cities like NYC and Philly a lot longer than out in the west. What works in one city doesn't always work in another, that's why CC seems to be shooting themselves in the foot playing the same bland playlist of Christmas songs this year.
Much more repetition too.

I have noticed that nobody seems to be happy with KRTH now, which is strange because their ratings are up and they sound a lot better now than three years ago. Noticed this on the SF board too when it came to KFRC-FM. They were different though airing A's baseball games and really sounding much less "put together" than KRTH. KFRC also had a really great history to try to live up to. Hard to believe that the same company owns them.

Yes, many listeners are happy with KRTH. I was referring to the posters on these boards who never seem to be satisfied. Sadly, radio may never return to what it was, so savor what little there is now.

As Christmas stations go, KRTH (and WCBS) is the best so far. Lots less MOR boredom and cheesiness (though it's still there) and more oldies and rock and roll Xmas tunes.

A little bird from the miracle mile told me that she was only hired to host Christmas events. If that's true, then yes, it's just to get back at KOST. Tacky, probably, but it's the kind of psychological game that PD's used to play and Kaye does come from that era. He's said in Don Barrett's LA Radio that his goal has been to beat his old station and from what I can tell he takes every opportunity to do it. It doesn't hurt that CC is helping him by make dumb decisions. The sad thing is that I’m sure the KOST staff knows what’s wrong, but can’t do anything to make it right. Getting back to Kim Amidon, I heard her hosting a party at Knott’s Berry Farm and doing the remote from Buena Park, but other than that, only on promos, lot’s of them. It’s a smart move to get her as people still hate KOST for not renewing her contract. Now all Kaye needs to do is steal some more of his old staff to really twist the knife.
