K-Love Birmingham changes call signs

Just noticed yesterday that K-Love's translator in Birmingham, which had previously identified itself as WERC HD-3 Hoover, is now IDing as WMJJ HD-3 Birmingham. It's a very minor change, but I wonder why they did? Was this done to make room for that new 94.9 station?

No this couldn't be the reason because Rock 94.9 is translating WQEN HD 3, But I think I have figured out what's going on there is a construction permit for 92.5 in Tuscaloosa translating this same channel (see link below)

http://cdbs.recnet.net:8080/fmq.php...tate=&country=US&arn=&party=&party_type=LICEN

The first step was to move K-Love from WERC HD 3 to WMJJ HD 3 Then 92.5 in Tuscaloosa launches off the same WMJJ HD 3 signal. Finally the 106.5 translator comes on the air with the WMJJ HD 3
K-Love format and 96.1 goes off the air because 106.5 took the format or WERC HD 3 re-launches paired with the 96.1 translator as the first Air 1 station in Alabama.

I'm curious why you think 106.5 would take the K-Love format from 96.1, when 96.1 seems to be a much more robust frequency, at least on paper.

It would be simpler to lauch Air1 as WERC-HD3 and feed 106.5, wouldn't it? Unless you know something I don't. ;)

I see what your saying but I think you are not taking into account that 96.5 WMJJ and the 106.5 translator would be both broadcasting off the same tower(or it least it looks like it on paper).

WERC and the 96.1 Translator appear to also broadcast off the same tower(but a different one).

WERC HD3 moved to WMJJ HD 3 a few days ago so what I'm saying is it would seem logical to broadcast the translator off the same tower as the parent HD sub-channel signal.

Is it True you are with Alabama broadcast media page, if so you should update W237AQ 95.3 in Killen. Though licensed to re-broadcast WUHT in Birmingham it is actually re-broadcasting WAYH in harvest. The same goes for W258AE 99.5 in Florence you have it down it's re-broadcasting WAYW in New Johnsonville, TN, it's actually re-broadcasting WAYH in harvest as well. One more thing the W293CM 106.5 Graysville (Birmingham) Construction Permit is for 99 watts not 22 watts (I think originally it was for 22 though). I hope I can be of help to you. :)

Your information is definitely helpful to me. I never get north of Birmingham these days so the northern part of the state tends to be the most neglected on my page, along with the Dothan and Columbus/Phenix City areas.

I've taken down that info and will update my site when I can. Thanks!
