K-Rock 2 is garbage

Ever since upgrading their website, K-Rock 2 has become unlistenable. What the hell were they thinking "tweaking" the format?

It's pure shite.

Look at their playlist:

http://www.krock2.com/pages/671348.php

That's the type of music they should be playing on their commercial venture, K-Rock, but don't get me started.

Either way, its a travesty that Arctic Monkeys, the Rapture, Good Shoes, and several other bands are missing from this "alternative" playlist.

Oh yeah, the bitrate still sucks.

What is your problem with that playlist aside from the fact that a certain handful of acts aren't played? IMHO, that playlist is great, and it doesn't seem much different from what I've heard of K-Rock 2 in the past. If anything it's better since it's not loaded with emo. I agree that they should be playing Arctic Monkeys, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it's an excellent mix of alternative music featuring acts you won't hear on most commercial stations. I'd love to have this as the regular version of K-Rock.

WTF.... when I go to listen live:
The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
I can't even listen to it on my mac
they are not transmitting HD2 either so I cannot listen to k-rock2 at all...
If I am a die hard radio nut, how can a normal consumer listen to it?

I guess my main issue with the reimaging of K-Rock 2, is that its a more active sounding alternative, rather than a mellower, mid-90's inspired alternative. Also, while its cool that they all new music, maybe I'd like to see "Live Forever," "Mixed Business," or some other occasional 90's hit thrown in. I'll probably give it a good long listen again sometime soon, but for now it's all Last.FM.

that playlist doesn't look like it's been updated in a while. Either way, all the songs on there are fair game to be played on Alternative. I don't even see ANY active-leaning tracks so I'm a bit perplexed as to why you are complaining. Now, the MAIN K-Rock on the other hand could use some work.

My only issue is it looks a bit out of date with some of the inclusions - ala "Crooked Teeth" which should definitely be on, but it's not a current. That's a bit confusing. But overall, it made me want to give this a listen.

I think it just hasn't been updated on the web in a while. The playlist on the station seems to include a lot of new music.

I agree that they should use this format on FM instead of internet-only. The ratings suck and the station sounds awful; what have they got to lose? BTW The Arctic Monkeys' latest album tanked compared to the first one. I think K-Rock 2 used to play Brainbomb.

I wonder why it's not broadcast on HD2.

K-Rock on FM sounds like a "safer" more active version of KROQ in LA, plus Guns N Roses ad nauseum. The problem is K-Rock doesn't have any kind of hip reputation to fall back on and suck like KROQ. They need to put some faith in the NYC audience and be a lot more adventurous, but they'll never have the balls.

Growing balls would start with hiring some edgy jocks that have something to say or at the very leasy, a personality...

I think jocks are such a waste of money. back in the 70's when there were no computers, it made sense to have someone man the station. Automation is better now.

That's a hard argument these days. Some would say jocks help sell the station for listeners over mp3 players.

Those people are wrong. How did Free-FM work out? Radio has been losing marketshare to MP3 players for the last five years, and their solution has been to focus on the jocks. Are they still losing marketshare?

If you can't beat the jockless world of mp3 players, maybe you should join it.

Maybe...depends on the format. The kids that listen to KISS-FM like iPods. But people listening to Jazz, that's a different demo completely.

You take the playlist of K-Rock 2, add some DJs with personality and that'd be one great station. Obviously, it'd probably be a little streamlined from the web-based format but you might have some people in NYC and surrounding areas tuning in who you never had a chance at before when the station was playing Godsmack, Kid Rock and Creed.

I like the playlist I'm seeing for K-Rock 2. They must have recently updated it because it looks pretty current to me. If you put K-Rock 2 mixed with live jocks, you get WEQX. It is being done, just not in many major markets. Even KROQ in LA is playing some crap these days...

Alternative music encompasses a large range of music these days. WNNX in Atlanta is struggling with its music/ratings, too.

Most "Alternative" listeners (myself included) tuned out of FM/AM radio a long time ago. Getting them back.....is going to be hard.
