K104.7 musical changes

Has anyone notice the changes for K104.7? I listened to the station online and I noticed that they play more older music and less currents than other mainstream AC stations I have ever listened to. While checking the playlist, I see that they play much more 70's and 80's music than ever before. The other night, I even saw they included Walking In Rhythm by the Blackbyrds, which is very rare for today's mainstream AC standards. Also included in the playlist was Motown and classic disco. These changes are a far cry from years ago when they were moving closer to hot AC.

If this trend keeps up, would this eventually evolve into a full-blown classic hits station?

This is how it sounded a few years ago. Although back then it was still AC the way AC used to be defined. It might even have qualified as soft AC.

But I thought they were evolving into a station that might as well be Hot AC.

I noticed that too. I wonder if it is because their HD2 station, which is 70s, is not being listened to alot. Portable HD radios are still very hard to come by and not very well made. Most people I know don't even know what HD radio is. I still luckily own a portable inisgnia HD radio which still works {knock on wood}

I maybe think it's from the acquisation of Greater Media and K104.7 is going more to Soft AC, because 107.9 The Link is already Hot AC and having 2 Hot ACs owned by the same company would be a conflict of interest, and The Link does better in the ratings for a Hot AC than K104.7, so maybe K104 7 is leaving The Link alone, so maybe this means that The Link is more likely to be acquired by Beasley and WBT would most likely be sold to another person, and it would be a big one, due to their clear-channel (Class A) signal.:)

Actually they Beasley can keep WBT if they want to. However they would have to find a buyer for 2 FM's since they own WPEG, WBIV, WNKS, WSOC-FM, WKQC, in addition to WBT-FM and WLNK. The FM limit is 5 stations.

WBT and AM radio in general is in a long slide down. Generations of listeners have no idea that AM even exists and most others don't care. Radios are coming out with no AM sections. I love AM radio but it's time to face the fact, it's dead.

Sorry guys looking at my previous post it looks like I veered off topic a bit. Yes I also noticed older music on K-104.7 a real departure from the music they were playing. I have no idea why they have reversed their musical direction. It seems like The Lake is playing some older titles as well but they must have a very short playlist at The Lake. Every time I turn on The Lake they are playing Addicted To Love by Robert Palmer. A good song but they sure do play it a lot!
