K221GV 92.1 Translator for KKGM 1630

I drove by the site today. The signal is highly directional. Going eastbound on Trinity Blvd, 92.1 started to cut in at the RR bridge about a mile to the west. There wasn’t a solid signal until I got less than a quarter mile from the transmitter (past the water treatment plant). Going east I was able to get a strong signal until FM 157/Industrial Dr. about 1.5 miles away. All traces of the signal were gone by the time I got to American Blvd, 3 miles away.

I heard multiple identifiers saying they were on AM 970 and AM 1630 but none of them mentioned 92.1 FM. That’s the only AM station with an FM simulcast I’ve heard that didn’t mention it.

Well. That seems to fit the contours the fcc have.

Still doesn’t seem Worth the effort.
 
The way the FCC sees you, if you have a licensed facility you have certain rights and ,power, if you will. Because you exist, you upgrade later as the dialscape changes. Existing licensees have a bit of an advantage over a new applicant.
 
IHM had submitted a Modification to K221GV, Modifcation Moves the license to 97.5 fm power stays the same.

I am sure Gow Media will have words about this.

Yes there is. This translator will not cause it any interference, whatsoever. Penfold operates K248CC from Cockrell Hill without any issues to K-Lake, and it is a much better facility than what iHeart is proposing.

The last one was a low power signal that played all local bands…pretty cool. The Southside Pirate. It’s a cool concept, but KTCU plays a ton of local acts, and while KTCU doesn’t have that great of a signal, it had a much better range than the Pirate’s paltry range. It didn’t surprise me to see the Pirate go out of existence. KTCU, KXT, and KNON all feature plenty of local music and the type of people that listen to local music aren’t a big demographic. The Pirate may have cost next to nothing to run, but even passion projects have their limits.

Yes it is, its considered part of the DFW market.... but what market it is or isnt in doesnt matter.. translator rules have changed and its harder now to get them shut down or moved. It partially matters if the station being interfered with has listeners there.
