Try listening on 104.7 and see if you hear both stations with KVET's audio twice as loud as KROX

Apologies...there is NO interference with The Horn. I should have said they sound MUCH stronger and clearer than 104.9.
 
No coverage map? I can't find them listed in Radio-locator. AM1300 goes a lot farther than 103.1 thats for sure!

I bet it doesn't at night! I remember passing Wm. Cannon and losing it completely after dark, after their power cut.
 
Are you talking 1300 or 1530? 1300's signal from their site in north Austin beams to the south at night and is pretty solid across South Austin even though it's just 1kw.
 
I can still get 1300 at night near Lockhart, but 1530am nothing at night. Signals during the day is about the same for both frequencies.

Absolutely Fred. I remember straining to hear Cowboys games while driving at night on Davis Lane. When KVET went ferom 5000 to 1000 it sounded like they had just moved to south San Antonio.
 
What is all the fuss about KDRP and k276EL? Looks like they would be more worried about KHHL during a tripo than anything else. I don't see KDRP doing anything to K276EL.

It's the other way around. KDRP is complaining EMF's K276EL is stepping on their service area.

That makes more sense guess I wasn't paying attention when they did the news story.
 
It should also be noted that KHHL ESPN Deportes is coming in with "close listening range" in San Marcos now. It's like you are in Wilson County. It does fade wants you get north of San Marcos, however.
 
Maybe you're on a high spot and/or listening to some skip. But KHHL's "close listening range" signal doesn't reach north to Seguin much less San Marcos. That's why EMF was originally able to license an Air One translator on 103.1 in San Marcos.

Definitely wasn't skip. It comes in very clearly. I would invite you to take a trip to San Marcos and listen for yourself.
 
I can confirm that ESPN Deportes is indeed listenable in San Marcos now. I used to commute between Seguin and San Marcos this past Spring and 103.1 KHHL always came into Seguin clearly. The translator and KHHL fight started north of Geronimo, TX. As of today, KHHL is somewhat spotty in San Marcos, but still listenable.

On a similar topic, two translators that amaze me are 97.1 and 106.5. They are both listenable in San Marcos and go farther than your typical translators. Most of the times, I am able to pick up 97.1's RDS "FIESTA" message. 99.7 is covered up in San Marcos by KISS-FM digital hash.
 
I agree that since K276EL 103.1 is licensed to Austin, KHHL is quite listenable in San Marcos- it cuts off in Kyle. And yes, 97.1 is the strongest Austin translator in San Marcos. Maybe its the tropospheric conditions...
 
I'm glad you mentioned the 97.1 translator. There is no coverage map on radio-locator, but it covers a lot of ground. I'm not sure how far south it goes, but it covers San Marcos very well. I'll have to test it next time I drive to San Antonio.

The first time I discovered the station was while driving on I-10 East of Luling. It was fading a lot and my first guess was it was a DX from Nuevo Laredo, MX. Sometimes I wonder if they are actually pumping more power then they are supposed to.
