KANE to replace MJ on FLZ mornings

He's hilarious, topical and can execute. Who cares where the show originates? Long live the Pig!!!! :D

Goober you are wrong. They do want LOCAL especially in the mornings

I prefer it and have also seen where a station has backtracked.

WMTX moved Nancy Alexander to the afternoons and replaced her with Elvis Duran. They very quickly got rid of him and placed Kristy Knight on mornings. While it's mostly music with occasional breaks for traffic, it's still local.

While Chris Randolph is not local, he also was on the station previously so he's a familiar voice and tailors the voicetrack so it appears he's local.

MJ may have covered stations outside the Tampa market but he also acknowledged them, focusing on stories in Jacksonville and St Louis in addition to Tampa.

I have switched mostly to XL106.7 now because they continue to have a local focus but also still have talk in the morning with the music.

It deals with relate-ability to the audience. Since Kane has developed a following at WFLZ, it will be up to him to decide if it fits in with a morning audience, regardless where he is boadcasting.

Now MJ could "introduce" him, integrate, and start with some segments, there is not a lot of time, but some time is better than "MJ gone - Kane in", since this is a transition as opposed to a hostile move in direction.

To apply it in a "cut-off" manner would also give an impression to the audience that Hot has won the battle, as others on the board have already wrongly formulated.

The audience doesn't care about the battle. Only us middle aged radio geeks on a radio message board care about radio wars. Luckily we are not in the demo.

Same goes for "posting" a song intro... audience never cared. Only we did.

Accidently hit 93.3 and MJ did not sound like the shows on Hot, Mix, Play, or even Magic. He sounded a lot more like Q105. He was complaining about somebody who vandalized Jeters house. Not that doing that is ever good, but his STYLE reminded me of a "you kids get off my lawn" skit. If Tampa CC had a full service MOR or a MOYL station, I'd move him over there.

Whats MOR or MOYL.
Both are "standards" formats. Ie: Frank Sinatra, Etc.

MOR = Middle of the Road
MOYL = Music Of Your Life, a format made famous by Al Ham.

Seems like CHR jocks have to sound like they actually listen to it on their free time. Guys like Herb Oscar Anderson (WABC), Joe O'Brien (WMCA), Harvey Hudson (WLEE in Richmond). and Jack Gale (WAYS in Charlotte) probably could not stay in CHR radio today. Forgot Chuck Daugherty of KQV PIttsburgh and Philly. Sure there were loads more.

If you want to hear a good example of an MOR format, listen to "Route 66" on WSDV 1450 am Sarasota. They do stream, so you can receive them on your computer. Great station!

Interesting that 95.1 KISSFM in Brevard replaced MJ with Elvis ...

It's more about placing Elvis' show in as many markets for national buys as it is about the local market. How much you want to bet that this station is listed as covering the Orlando market for national sales purposes?
