Say what you want about Jim Beard, but having worked for him he was hands down the best GM I have ever worked for. Radio is full of tightwads, and while Jim watched the books very closely I never had a need go unmet in my department. On top of that, he always treated me with respect and even when we disagreed on things, he never hit below the belt... something I can't say about other GM's I've worked for.
I know that down the line he's pissed some people off, but for my $.02 worth he's a great guy. Pissing people off is part of being the boss. If you want to know the real problem with Cit-LR I could probably tell you, but you really dont' want to hear it. Suffice it to say, it most certainly isn't Jim Beard.
You want a real a-hole... go work for the GM at Big River Broadcasting in Florence/MS AL. Small market radio at it's worst... you come out of that group and you'd be kissing Jim's rear-quarters for a job. And they were the good guys in town.
As for Willingham... has anyone ASKED why he's in the "traffic center" instead of being on the road. We've just assumed that he's there because they don't want to pay gas money? C'mon guys...
LR was not growing much in revenue when i was there, but they were not losing money... just not making as much as they should have, or even could have. That has more to do with the revolving door of sales people than anything else.
