Frankly, Peter was Peter (lack of education and all). Katie is Katie (Today Show diva and all). Most of the blue-haired generation who still watch the evening news want to see the news anchored by a WHITE male of their generation. A woman or person of color is simply NOT going to do well in that slot.
I'm of the opinion that college degrees represent no more than having one's ticket punched in order to get the first job rather than imparting any knowledge needed to do a job well. I'll allow that some specialized fields such as medicine, law and engineering are exceptions.
I agree 100% even things like medicine you have to keep up with daily so once you graduate you're still back in school learning. The only thing a degree does is help you get into the FIRST job in your field.
And now it means little since the old fashioned "real" journalism with undercover reporting and investigation is largely limted or is done in conjuntion with corporate sponsors.
Now it's stricly a matter of who can deliever the ratings and the TYPE of rating as well.
But getting back to Katie, I have to give CBS credit at least they were trying to go for a different slice of the network pie. It was obvious they weren't gonna steal viewers from NBC or ABC, I guess they thought they could get women or other viewers that didn't watch network news at all.

Sorry, I have to disagree. My degrees have helped me get all 4 jobs that I have had since leaving school. But, then, I (luckily) attended prestigious institutions and STUDIED VERY HARD (I wasn't partying every weekend like many did).
