No snow yet but it's getting close...Getting down into the 30's at night... Most stations have already fired up their de-icing equipment in the flame throwers.

DAMN! it's cold here!

Oh Evan, DO you really believe this is about you. No need for the paranoia. You mean you worked in the same building as the engineer? Gee, oh golly!

Not "paranoid" at all, KurtT, and it's got nothing to do with me, you wild n crazee guy. I'm simply voicing my support for a good engineer. And this has nothing to do with you either, radio dude. Anything else you need?

YIKES...this personal stuff sure is weird! Does Lumberyard 14~Forty have an engineer after sunset?

The most consistent engineering presence in the Valley, Gary at KSLX. He's managed to ride out 6 or 7 management changes and still keeps on ticking. Lamp Timer? Certain budgetary issues are out of his control. He's dealing with Sandusky, who's been notoriously cheap decades before the advent of cheap channel.

Yo, Evan O, former KSLX superjock! Whatcha been upto bro ?

First time since October started that I remembered
to check out Lumberyard 1440 and the lamptimer.

October daytime: 6:30am-6:00pm MST.

Tonight (October 3), at about ten seconds till 6,
the close music from the EVOO Radio Network
was cross-faded to an oldie (This Magic Moment)
which was, of course, in progress.

Their normal hard drive automation triggered a legal ID
jingle following Jay & the Americans at 6:01:57...but was
the plug then pulled? Of course not. Another song
followed, then yet another. The "yet another" song was
the victim of the grossly-maladjusted lamptimer as it pulled
the plug at 6:06:08 in its usual fashion--song in progress,
sans ID.

Yo Gumpdusky...six minutes after the specified monthly time
seems a bit much. I think it's time for a recalibration of the
ol' lamptimer, but for the time source don't use the sundial in
the lumberyard. ;)

Try http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Mountain/s/-7/java
or call the WWV boss line at 303-499-7111.

Loved doing Middays and Eveings at 100.7, but a family matter took me away from AZ. Still in radio, now doing a Morning show gig in Oregon. This station sounds like KOOL did about 8-9 years ago. Fun and upbeat, music from the 60s & 70s, but with some Little Richard and Be-Bop thrown in as well. Still a huge movie buff and the world's biggest Queen fan. Miss my fellow rockers in Phx though! Love to stay in touch at 541-217-5231.

Too bad current Phx radio doesn't have that same formula. I still think it would be a winner.

If not executed properly, it CAN backfire and sound fake...some of the jocks have that boss sound.

Before taking this job, I was going to head to Vegas for a show at Extreme Radio (my personal choice of music: Heavy Metal), but some of those jocks sometimes sound aggresively angry. With the current economy-massive firings-it's refreshing to hear a 'good time rock n roll' sound on the dial that puts a tap in your toe.

Unlike where I worked in Phx, though, this is a G-rated station. I am unable to voice any opinions/jokes/comments that could be percieved as even slightly offensive. Always gotta be aware of how I'm phrasing things--means more show prep.

Doesn't KOOL sound fun anymore? Didn't KEZ have a 'fun' edge to it?

You'll get differing opinions but IMHO KOOL's recent failing has been the change in music. No 50's. Fewer 60's (especially Folk Rock, Psychedelic, and "protest rock"), too much disco and Motown. Dull. Boring. Bland.

Morning Show is entertaining (except for those loooooong commercial breaks). Camelback Jack is, as always, himself and fun to listen to. Goddard is OK but frankly can't understand why they canned Gardner then spent big buck$ for Steve (assumption on my part based on other comments on this board). Evenings are Tom Kent which passes for background but not as interesting as a live Phoenix jock.

I was never a KEZ listener. Too much like Ma and Pa Kettle.

Possible great thing...landtuna? How about a segway into Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel, distributed by ABC Radio Networks (no 70's or 80's in the mix, just 50's & 60's). You can check out a live feed from one of their affiliates at www.trueoldieschannel.com Could provide consistant programming...complete with branding "True Oldies Channel 1440" and legals ID's oh boy! Could also give smaller advertisers an alternative to unaffordable KOOL-FM. Just some thoughts for the board to chew on.

Theres a reason I call True Oldies "The Scott Shannon Ego Project". .i absolutely cant stand Scott Shannon all the time.

Plus, the imaging SUCKS.. wayyy to contemporary sounding....

Are we talking about the same KOOL? The FM in Phoenix?

Because KOOL FM in Phoenix has a 1.7 in 25-54 in January, and in the month of September, it had a 5.8, and that was good for #1 in the demo for that month.

All the things you are talking about are of no interest to persons under 55.

I'm 23 years old and I think 1440 AM is great as is. Am I the only one that wished this station was on 24/7? There is nowhere else to go on the radio dial for true oldies. I find it laughable that Arbitron still calls KOOL 94.5 an "oldies" station when they don't play any oldies pre-Beatles and most of their music is from the 70's (technically not oldies). KOOL finds any excuse to play 70's music. The 70's at 7:00, the 70's Saturday night disco dance party and, my favorite, the all 70's weekend! KOOL is not an oldies station anymore! Other markets are able to maintain a 24/7 oldies station, why can't Phoenix? Chicago has WLS-FM, Los Angeles has KRTH FM and nearby Denver has a great new "Cruisin' Oldies" station, 950 AM. At night here in Phoenix, 950 AM is somewhat listenable and is the only oldies station I can find on the dial at night. I think a lot of people would give 1440 a listen if they just knew about it. The combination of it being down on the dial, the lack of advertising and no nighttime signal puts the station at a big disadvantage. Hopefully one day this station will be back on the air at night. Until then, keep up the good work 1440, you're the best station on the AM dial!

George,

Apparently you did not get the Arbitron memo that Pre Beatles stations have been renamed as "Pre-Hit Radio Standards"

Arbitron don't rate or recognize those dinosauers anymore except up near the canyon.
