KAZG Radio Station..man it's HOT here!

Hey guys in the meantime he can stream at koolradio.com on his Sprint Card.

What was the quirkyest thing about the 77 AMC Pacer?..A station I worked at once had one as a News Cruiser and they dubbed it the "News Bubble" Actually it was quite roomy, and pretty comfortable to drive. They clocked something like 213K on the odometer until it became so embarrassing to drive to functions that with multiple paint jobs it began to look really "wavy" and patchy..also the aerodynamics got messed up because they painted new logos on it for about 12 years every other year or so. Oh and they had installed one of those OLD Motorola 2-way radios with the tranciever in the back..Every time you keyed the mic the A/C blower would make a screaming noise. Turned out that the 50 watt radio was sending RF into the fan windings and the car radio speakers. Gas tank rusted out three times that I knew of, and it finally sailed through an intersection and met the Lord..driver bailed out and the other driver was not hurt...but bad PR for the station.

Howard seems to really like steak..Do you eat it every day? Dr. Akbar might need to run a screening on you along with your next porterhouse. Doc..give me a call if you hear from him. I'll join you at the steak joint.

Nameless Faceless Voice Guy

Did someone mention Steak?!?!?!?!?

NFVG... you always sounded kind of Vegan to me... Nice to know you're a fellow carnivore...

I notice you have a profile on the KOOL airstaff page at KOOLradio.com... While I was there... I noticed even that lame Hollywood guy who's on in the morning for 5 minutes has a profile...

Too bad the hardworking weekend voicetrackers don't merit even a passing mention....

Is it voicetracked on the weekends where you are? ???

Yo, NFVG....actually we're meeting over at Bill Johnson's for a heapin' helpin' of Humble Pie on Luvable One's dime. Care to join us? Nurse Jeff and I'd really like to run up the tab, so the more the merrier! Perhaps someday you can introduce us to the NFVG who does those snappy 14 in a row liners for Lumberyard 14~Forty.

Closed circuit for Gumpdusky engineering...

After sign-off this Saturday evening, don't forget to reset
the lamptimer to a 5:15am "on" and a 7:45pm "off"--as
Sunday is June 1--and let the drifting begin anew!

Hmmm, maybe the official song of Lumberyard 1440 should
be Dobie Gray's Drift Away.

And maybe we could get pictures of the event? A :30 VO
on The Place With More Fluff at Ten? ;D

For the first evening of June (broadcast day 5:15am to 7:45pm),
KAZG pulled the plug at 7:43:20.

With last night being at 7:13:30 (for a 7:15) and the drift pattern
being somewhere around 8-10 sec. every 24 hours, it seems that
all Gumpdusky did to the lamp timer was reset the on/off times,
without trying to synch it better to "real" (i.e., atomic) time.

A flip over to 1100 within 30 sec. of Lumberyard 1440's sign-off
revealed KFNX was already on night pattern. Amazing, ain't it?
Hey Francis, you can blowtorch until 7:45 now...I'm sure you want
to take advantage of every legal minute you can!

"...uue Moooon" (missed it by that much!)

We almost got the entire song Blue Moon by the Marcels,
but Gumpdusky's lamptimer had other ideas as it yanked
the carrier at 7:42:21 Sunday evening.

By a calculation guesstimate, if it signs you off early it should
also sign you on early, so Lumberyard 1440 should be coming on
Monday morning at least 2:40 prior to its specified 5:15am time.

Hey I got it--if anyone in authority (cough...FCC...cough) ever questions
this sloppy practice, KAZG can just say "it's the digital delay!" ;D
(If the Feds were dumb enough to authorize I-CRAP, they're
dumb enough to believe Gumpdusky is running it, as well as their,
uh, "excuse.")

With it now so warm out... (I know it's a dry heat) :-X I wonder who is going to crash out first because of an AC failure. I remember the KXAM transmitter building was getting in the 90's while out assisting Dave Dickson. (who also contracted to Skyview, KFNN and others) The AC thermostat took a crap and the blower quit, they were off for some 3 hours during the day. (1992-ish) it took a few to get the signal back up and calibrated. Eventually the unit got replaced with central air.

That is one of those stations where even a portion of the radials were plowed up by SRP around the irrigation ditches. When I was out there the last time...(Y2k) the radials still poked up through the ground, and were quite bare meaning that apparently they never got fixed.

7:42:13.

Their deluxe model ::) lamptimer gains about eight seconds
(gets earlier) every 24 hours.

Another 2:00 or so without a reset and Lumberyard 1440's
new slogan can be (this one's for Akbar)...

"Sign-off five minutes sooner on KAZG Scottsdale!"

Of course they'll use the liner all during the broadcast day
except at sign-off, since they never do a legal ID
when the juice is......(static)......

Insert version of Bobby Troup at the end of M*A*S*H
comment here, substituting "lamptimer" for "army." ;D

Maybe one of Lumberyard's most played songs should be Jim Croce's "Time in a Bottle"?

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with youuuu....

;D

...great, Lauren. You now owe Ingrid Croce Rock a nice little chunk of royalty change. Payment may be made at Croce's Top Hat Bar & Grille, 818 Fifth Avenue in San Diego, only a few hours' drive from PHX ;D ...

The Nurse and I was a thinkin'....what if Gumpdusky gifted Lumberyard 14~40 to NAU for a sizable write-off as a marketing tool to recuirt young victims of government education? Then we could hear the Lumberjacks on the Lumberyard with sign-offs five minutes sooner!

hmmmm...we keep remembering what someone said several years ago about KAZG: never has so much bandwidth been wasted on such a meaningless subject.

Doc,

The last time I was at the bunker... the old reserve studio was filled with storage, the plumbing was off and the generator needed repair. Although they were at the time being upgraded to PC based telemetry. (1997)

Although they did have a new optimod, and still the radials needed repair.

And I almost forgot the Main Transmitter was being repaired, It was on the old Tube (PCB generating) Transmitter circa 1950's.

Time to bring ol' Lumberyard 1440 out of mothballs
as a new month has started, with a broadcast day
of 5:30am-7:45pm.

While the lamptimer's "on" mode has been adjusted
for fifteen minutes later, nothing was done about
its penchant for drifting earlier each day.

Tuesday evening's sign-off was 7:39:06, today's
sign-on 5:24:02, off this evening at 7:38:57.

Still averaging about :08-:09 of drift every 24 hours.

Signing on more than five minutes early at day power
(and did we note they still don't ID?) has got to be
some sort of FCC rule* infraction. Tomorrow morning,
unless Gumpdusky engineering pulls a shift at the
lumberyard tonight to reset the lamptimer, KAZG will be
coming on just over six minutes early.

Note to Gumpdusky bean counters--an atomic clock
is not that expensive, it's not going to jeopardize the
funding for your executives' bonus program. ::)

* FCC rule(s): apparently now seldom-enforced for things
like IDs, power, sign-on/off. Then there's I-CRAP,
which should be a violation. Does anyone from
the FCC read these boards? I guess they're too busy
making sure no one says "georgecarlinsevenwords." ;D

Ya got us wonderin' there Oldiesfan...if Howard & Bill are headed back to the land of Lumberyard 14~Forty? By now they must have consumed at least 60+ cheap steak dinners along the way and dropped off those busted lawnmowers for some kind of dubious reincarnation (memo to Nurse Jeff: don't buy any new mower at Home Depot or Lowes for a while). Anywho, it'll be darned close to interesting to have those two back in town. We're kinda hopin' that the Luvable One will let Howard & Bill tag along with us for that heapin' helpin' of humble pie once KT'R becomes the #1 news and talk station. We figure that might happen sometime in the year twenty five twenty five. In the meantime, it's more burned out oldies back to back and fourteen in a row on Kay Ay Zee Gee!

Man, you guys are just.....cruel! ;D

Sing along: "Cruel ninety-four-point-five!"

Oh wait, they flipped the positioner around.

"Ninety-four-point-five, Cruel eff-emmm."
(Doesn't sound as good.) ;)

But not nearly as "KOOL" as KGO-FM from late 60's:

"F-MMMMMM, 103 point SEVEN, K-G-OOOO, S-T-E-R-E-O-O-O-O, San Franciscooooooooo"
