KBIG-CCLA wimps out-AGAIN!

CCLA wimps out again-with a wimpy format called MY-Fm!

First off, they don't have the creativity to come up with their OWN slogan, so they have to steal one from channel 13! Next, they put all this namby-pamby music on-and of course do it jockess (read; CHEAP!). Then they don't even have the balls to call it MY-they have to keep claiming it's FRESH!

I love the quote in All Access: Market President GREG ASHLOCK added, "Just listen to an hour and you'll be hooked. Every song puts a smile on your face. We're very optimistic about the launch of this new station as Fresh (WWFS) in New York has experienced success out of the gate with a very similar playlist and presentation"

See? they have to steal an idea from NYC, because they don't have the creativity to come up with something original!

The irony is that they will probably do better then KBIG was doing-and it'll be CHEAP to run-but there's SO MUCH MORE they could have done with that BIG 100,000 watt FM signal!

I'm disappointed-but not surprised.

Not actually a format change huh?
Just a repositioning.

And how does My and Star exsist under the same roof?

I really believe Star will change next...

My main question is with or without DJs? Without them, they may be heading too close to Jack?
My sounds nothing like Jack. They share very little in the way of music.

exactly the way i feel they wimped out big time.i live down here in southern san diego and the kbig signal reaches down here very good.they picked the wrong format indeed.and all of the on air tallent ?gone.that is the part that i think sucks.i called up kari steel on friday and she didnt even know about the format flip.pretty sad.if you want your dance music fix i found this station out of san fransisco..

My will target the same demos.
The music mix is very similar only in opposite directions - Jack mainly relies on Retro hits with a Rock/Pop lean. My mainly relies on more contemporary hits (by adult standards) with a Rock/Pop lean.

And they are both boring cookie cutter formats that work.

I'm much more disappointed with Jack than My. At least My is an improvement over KBIG. Jack has become quite boring over the summer. The imaging is really lacking on Jack compared to early this year.

It looks like they are taking a HOT AC approach, they have basically pulled of all the Rhythmic AC out of heavy rotation. This might help the Movin #'s. Looked at the first hour, gotta say the mix is not bad. I know alot of stations that have gone jockless, and have done well. So, this could be a good move. The nice thing about the radio biz, if it doesn't work you can always change again.

Thought I posted this...mussa not:

Mike Steel was out at Indie 6 months ago.

How long is his non-compete?

$1 says he ends up at Star 98.7 when they make the move to Active/Alt.

Again...just a guess...but if I had a $1 to bet Id put it on that.

Star wil become a more active/alt rocker.

thats my guess..

Agreed

This press quote is kind of interesting:

"Clear Channel L.A. VP of programming Michael Martin said, “With today’s consumer wanting to custom tailor everything to their liking the name MY is a perfect brand for radio. This is a station designed by the listeners to play music they tell us they want to hear.”

So what do we have here? Conventional radio painted up to look like Pandora?

Pathetic!

Why do so many of you feel like you've been let down??? Are you a woman in the target demo? Were you expecting some innovative and super original format to be launched on 104.3??
What the station has decided to do was to remain in the realm of Bright/Hot AC, with some tweaks to its music mix, but with a similar target audience. The station hopes to increase its market share and revenues, not to get high fives from a bunch of radio geeks.

Oh, that's right! In the radio "business" distantly following a fad or trend is always to be preferred over originality.

MySpace, MyFM, get it? Yawn.

In a word...BORING!

MY in San Diego was a failure until STAR flipped to JACK...then they had to change the brand to STAR to make it a success.

Should have flipped to BIG Country 1043 and put GO and KFROG out of business. I have programmed AC for 10 years there just aint enough of the pie in this town for this many AC stations.

LMAO, yeah right. L.A. can basically take on one Country station, which is down by the way, let alone two.

Most of Star in San Diego numbers are because of Jeff and Jer moving from Jack San Diego not because of the identity change to Star from My. Get your facts in order.

We have one country station. We can't support two. What does KFROG have to do with Los Angeles? It isn't an L.A. radio station.

Clear Channel made a great move with 104.3 My FM. Now, no station can come in and do the Fresh format (such as Emmis' DEAD Movin 93.9). Clear Channel L.A. keeps its lock on women from 12-64 (soon 6-64). They've clearned up a format that was in dire need of a revamp. It will be a great success during the new year when the PPM is introduced and will be an instant hit with advertisers.
