If I remember right, doesn't Clear Channel have it's own concert promotion company? I don't think getting acts would be a problem for KBIG.

Remember they own KOST - Why would the do something that would compete with one of their own? - Radio 98.7 makes sense, a full on rock station...But the change to Fresh makes no sense. They would be a direct format competitor with KOST! These are changes to welcome the PPM world where it looks like Rock and AC are the cume giants.

The problem with 98.7 is that it is nt a full market signal... if they want to go up against KROQ (Alternative is the winner in Houston) they need to use the KBIG facility.
 
Allaccess.com today is reporting that there are tons of rumors flying that Clear Channel is going to flip more than one of it's L.A. stations. They are saying that it could be country, classic rock, Spanish, or something that is gay and lesbian oriented. I don't think Spanish would make a lick of sense. Isn't classic rock already covered by KLOS? L.A. can't support 2 classic rock stations. If KBIG or KYSR were to go country I guess Sal will spinning the format wheel at 105.1 again...or it could go back to classical. The gay and lesbian thing seems to me like they must realize that their Pride Radio is doing well, although putting this on this BIG stick doesn't make sense either.

Does anyone know WHEN this will happen if it happens? I heard Monday, but I'll have my tape decks rolling for the flip. Hmm, should I record KBIG or KYSR? I think KBIG would be the better of the two to record.
 
it would be nice to hear Dance music on LA airwaves everytime dance music hits the airwaves it Doesn't have a good Signal i hope it ends on 104.3 or even add CHR/Dance
 
I miss dance a lot on L.A. radio as well. Too bad Movin' didn't take a different plan of execution and put dance on the air. I could see a CHR/dance combo aimed at gays and lesbians, but I don't think pure dance would work today.
 
everyone seems to be forgetting that clear channel LA also has 2 AM stations that aren't exactly strong performers

KLAC billed $25 million last year, so that one is hardly underperforming. KTLK is suffering, but there is not a lot left to do with a third AM. They have news talk with KFI and Sports with KLAC, and, other than all news, there is nothing left.
 
Given the huge dropoff is billings @ KZLA for 2006 vs. 2005, I don't see how CC could launch a country station without spending a ton of money on the air personalities they hire.

Could a country station have even a shot at billing $30,000,000+?

The production assistant without spellcheck in an earlier post has it correct:

M.M. and the CC people would be smart to bring that hot new FRE$H sound to 104.3 and give themselves a dynamic AC duo with KBIG and KO$T.

Also I see STAR going the way of Radio 104-5.Philly. Please note that the new Philly PD just until 2 months ago worked with Mike Martin in the Bay Area. But nobody should think that Radio 104-5 is a rock station. Looking at MOST of the playlist, listening to the imaging, and knowing someone talking to Philly about a gig, it's much more AAA than anything. That being said, AAA fans in LA will be have more pep in their step while shopping the isles at Whole Foods and Trader Joes.

The other possibility that would be more of a longshot is a dance CHR geared towards EVERYBODY who likes dance music. I could see a new CC dance chr being very involved in the gay community and some jocks being open about "things" on the air, but look at Energy in San Francsco...you know...the city where Michael Martin just left? Are ALL of the jocks gay? Does the station only sell spots to gay stores/businesses? NO, just stores that are in the business to see more GREEN, if it comes "out" of PINK pockets or not.

I see CC and Mr. Martin only doing a format that's been proven elsewhere, too much to lose in LA to not go with a proven product. The only real question is which 1,2 or 3(?) of these options are they going with?

Radio 98-7 would be an evolution from the existing format.

WRFF is No. 1 18-34 in Philly and No. 5 25-54 after just four months on the air in a PPM world.

Basically, it's a very adult leaning Alternative - and would probably keep a lot of the existing cume that KYSR has now.
