KBKO's Days are Numbered

It is good to hear Clear Channel Communications is leaving the Bakersfield Market. This broadcast company never has and never will understand the Bakersfield Market. Look what they did to KKXX after purchase from Mondosphere Broadcasting. KKXX while at 105.3, owned by Mondosphere, and directed by Steve Wall was one of the highest rated radio stations in the United States. Then Clear Channel took over with thier cookie cutter "Kiss FM" format. Please, this is not Los Angeles. Bakersfield radio heritage goes back to the KKXX and KUZZ days when both stations were owned by Buck Owens Broadcating. As far as KBKO, we all knew they wouldnt last. Clear Channel just kept whipping this dead horse far too long. It has already been tried in the past with KAMM 105.3, for example. KUZZ and KCWR will always dominate the Country Music format in this area. You have to be from this area to understand that. American General Media now holds the KKXX call letters and calls the station "Pirate Radio", another cookie cutter jack FM format that is short lived. This so called "Pirate Radio" is the station that is second from the bottom of the ratings list, KBKO being at the bottom.

Clear Channel is not leaving Bakersfield. The rest of the cluster remains intact after KBKO is spun off as required to comply with ownership limits as the buyout of CC is completed.

It's possible Lotas, will make KBKO a rock station similler to the blaze 105.1 Fresno, If CC is saying on this station to listen to 98.5 the fox and the Krab 106.1 on there last day. As far as CCin Fresno it makes more sinse to move KRZR to 102.7 They are #9 in the 12+ radings with 3.4,Alice is 2.4 ranked 14,KHGE is 1.6 ranked 19.

Okay, so it's one day later, and, if my east coast math is right, the last post on here was from 12-24 AM today. So?...,... What's on KBKO now? Cmon, posters, please give us East Coast format change junkies some info, please?

Why would you move KRZR to 102.7 if they're currently # 1 among english language stations A18-34 and #3 Men 25-54? Didn't CC learn that lesson in Bakersfield by moving KDFO around? 12+ means absolutely NOTHING. KRZR is dominant. Alice is #2 W25-54. KHGE is lost and is in need of a new format.

We dont smoke marijuana in Muskogee we dont take no lsd.... White lightning is still the biggest thrill of all..... (Okie from Muskogee, followed with green acers intro) loop... The countdown continues. Per Casey Casum let the hit keep coming and keep reaching for the stars.. ;D

Yeeeee Hawwww or is it Heeeeeee Haaaaaawww

The reason for moving KRZR to 102.7 ,It would put then about 500 feet higher with the same 50K ERP,there transmitter near Laton has drop off piont north of Herndon and in Visalia. They would increase there ratings in the Visalia-Tulare book, with they are very low conpared to KFRR 104.1.

when I tuned in for the ride home I heard merle haggard okie from muskogee...when it first repeated I was like stupid DJ/automation system...by the third time in a row I was like oh, format change.

the next day was Buck and Streets of Bakersfield...

Yesterday was an Elvis song. I only caught the intro.

It will be interesting to see what they go with. KRAB has adjusted to be more alternative leaning and the Fox is more of a newer adult rock/classic rock station then a true classic rock station.

So, if they were to go active rock or true classic rock...the odds are KRAB or the FOX will shift there format back to counter.

Dude where have you been hiding? If they do flip to any kind of rock station they need to take in consideration that AGM did the Real Rock format a few years back and flipped it after it failed..... Will Bakersfield support a third rock station if that was they plan on doing? Did CC do a non-compete for any format that they have in their cluster? If not then CC isnt as bright as they seem. I know this is CA and some non-competes dont real stick but its a legal document and a scare tactic. Just my two cents. Although the robot is cool.... ::) ;D

Like I said if CC didnt get a non-compete then they may be in for some trouble if they flip to any classic, active rock format. Just my opinion....

If CC got a non compete contract, what about a JACK FM format or Triple A. If not I think ,like i said before it will be Classic rock with 90's like there staion The blaze or Active rock, like LOTUS has in Las Vegas.

Real Rock...had some issues. They had a frequency change and really the music was not that good. I know I could program a rock station that would get good ratings in this market. It really is more then the music too...you have to be in touch with your market. A smart promotion team is just as important as good music.

Stopping myself before I go off on a big tangent but if you want to know how to run promotions in Bakersfield and win...loook back to the early 90s when Gina Davis was promotions director at KKXX...

Just been working a lot. After leaving KRAB I went to SLO as a Production Director/DJ...did some work in Santa Barbara too. I ended up back in bako around 2000 and did a little time at Klly and Real Rock. However, i like money so I went to my second love computers and have not looked back to radio...till now. It is like a drug addiction I guess...once a junkie always a junkie. I have been missing radio a lot lately.

How have you been? you are on Sirius? that is cool!
