KBKS Mornings

So, KBKS has had their producer filling in while J+B have been on vacation... has anybody listened? Not my usual morning station, but I caught a good portion of today's, and the guy was doing pretty well. A lot more relatable at least. KBKS should consider a permanent replacement if they want to keep from sliding all the way... the current duo needs to pack their bags and head on over to AC.

J&B had a very nice spring book, their highest demos in 4 books...they beat T-Man 12-24 women, which is the core of chr, and were right behind him 18-34 women. So drop them for what reason?

Because why settle for one first place finish when fresh talent could finally give T-MAN a run for his money? KBKS is the king of "Hey, atleast we TRIED really hard." J+B are only getting older, and they let that come through in their content and style... the 18-34 bracket will slip through their fingers as soon as Movin and perhaps The End gives listeners something else local to listen to. Being #1 or 2 by default isn't exactly something to brag about...

I wonder what the issue is with KBKS. On a four book, two book and trends the morning show has slipped. Two years ago KBKS was a solid number two behind KUBE and not that far behind. Now the mornings are number two in teens and declining in the 18-34 core. In the last couple of months KNDD has pulled ahead of them, along with MOVIN, Wolf and KUBE. This is in their core demo where they should easily be number one. 25-54, where a top tier CHR morning show should place top 10 and some place top 5, they have slipped to 20th. The new show this week sounded much younger, though not my cup of tea, it appeals probably is more targeted to the 18-34 core. KBKS needs some change, and their billing is declining in a significant way. Remember I always preach four books tell the story. This station was number one 18-34 in some books two years ago and top five in billing. No longer. It may slip out of the top ten in billing and on a four book is no longer a must buy in any demo outside of 12-17. I understand the new PD will be making changes, not sure if mornings are a part of those changes. I will tell you that in LA, Dallas, Boston, Minneapolis the Mainstream CHR morning shows are number one 12-17, 18-34, 18-44, 25-34, and top five 25-54 adults. It can be done.

It is tough for KBKS Mornings. T-Man has gained from the demise of Howard Stern and is crushing them 18-34. Kent and Alan, for no particular reason, have had a resurgence since January and are killing KBKS in the traditional female demos that go to great CHR's like KISS in Dallas, KISS in LA and KISS in Boston. MOVIN, Wolf and a resurging KNDD are all increasing too. My guess is KBKS will have to go a different route, more street, more rhythmic and much less talk in the mornings. MOVIN is about to get a morning show that will be music based. Jackie and Bender never really caught on here for some reason. They execute the basics of morning radio, but lack something. It sounds like radio in Spokane or Eugene. I feel they are the poor version of Kent and Alan, and those guys are pretty old school, but have 20 years on their side. I have heard Jackie is very nice and might do well in AC. It is a tough time for KBKS. MOVIN really makes life tough in the months ahead.

Thanks for the update on MOVIN Lisa... uh I mean Mamma ;) You're like "I've Got A Face for Radio"/"Take It From Me" FITZ ... pretty lousy poker face! LOL

i like how everyone assumes that the people posting on this thing are the top dogs at these stations. I'm sure Lisa Adams and Fitz have better things to do than post on this message board.

You'd be surprised as to who looks, reads, and comments here. GM's OM's PD's APD's MD's Jocks and part time board ops who think they have a clue like me !

I've walked in and seen staff reading this site right there in their / the office - studio- heck some have it bookmarked, some it's just right there in the history,
and some I know forget to log out after they were on so it's really easy....

Bottom line anyone who has read this site at one point - you can bet they have at least posted one time as well.....Just the nature of the beast.

Those who post about a certain person are either that person or worked with that person / company and have an axe to grind. Sadly this site is really for the haters out there. The majority of the posts are all about putting down others and talking smack. If you got to put others down on this site to make yourself feel better that's pretty sad huh......If you have to pimp your self out on this site to get others to talk about you...what does that say ?????

Getting an IP addy is not rocket science - I got alot of yours allready so...and if you know the right people you can find out just about anything ~ Elementry my dear Watson ! er is that Thomas ???

Ooopps I've spent tooo much time here as it is and am not paying attention to running the board....

Haven't we all had enough of the "I know whose behind that screen name" game in the other threads? I know I have... especially since you claim to have tracked my IP address, and still are making false identifications. I'd spend the time assuring you all of my identity if I didn't respect the anonymity of these sorts of forums so much. If someone gets on here to "toot" his or her own horn, so be it. The rest of us are here to give them a reality check if need be.

Hey slapnuts.......I never once said who you were and have never made any false indentifications. But if you want next time I see you at work we can talk about it then ok...so get off the meth and look a little closer befor you run your mouth.

I thought this post was about why KBKS mornings have declined over the past two years, not about namecalling. A group in our office were talking about what KBKS might do, since they are getting dropped by some major clients on buys. A younger media buyer (25 year old female) mentioned how much she enjoyed the Sami and Jubil show that had been filling in and wondered if they were staying.

Maybe the new PD already has a show in place and doesn't need this Board to fix the problems on the station. None in the office listen to Jackie and Bender, but some had a year ago and felt they were kinda like Mitch and Lisa on 92.5 a couple of years back. Okay, but not a reason to tune in. This Jubil guy seems to be attracting a lot of attention.

I agree a lot of PD's, GM's and DJ's read this post. What is more interesting is a lot of media buyers, regional reps (like me) and direct clients also read these posts. The good news is that most take it for what it is: gossip. I doubt any would make a buying decision based on what is written here. No one would not buy KBKS Mornings based on this thread, they would look hard at the numbers and base it on results for the clients. Sometimes a highly rating background station like JAZZ, Classical or Soft AC won't get bought because they don't get results. Sometimes lower rated stations will get on buys because they get specific results.

Jubel and Sami are the freshest sound to come along in Seattle mornings in some time. Will be interesting to see where they might land, or if they are the future at KBKS.

Are you kidding me? I'll say your partly right in that Jubil is funny and has been around for a while. On the other hand, Sami is terrible. If there are any changes made, it's possible you keep Jubil around but the rest of them have gotta go.

Jubil is clearly the strong talent ahead of Sami, Jackie or Bender. It will be interesting to see who ends up doing mornings in this market. There is some speculation that Marcus D could end up doing mornings at KBKS with Jubil and Sami.

It will also be interesting to see who ends up doing mornings at MOVIN. Whoopi will be launching on several MOVIN stations around the nation in the coming weeks as the format catches on nationally. She targets 25-54 year old women. In the Spring book in Seattle Ichabod and Kent and Alan are tops in that demographic. My bet is Whoopi would have no impact on Ichabod's numbers, but would kill Kent and Alan's older, tamer show. Who would women rather listen to, a couple of 50 year old men or a hip, Oscar winning, woman? This would be no contest.

The other option for MOVIN is to hire someone like a FITZ at WOlf or Jubel at KBKS or Kurt and COrine at STAR and go after the 18-34 year old woman. T-MAN is vulnerable to a hip, music based morning show. KBKS is no longer a factor in this demo so the opportunity is there for MOVIN. It would probably take a younger show to attract this demo than Whoopi and local.

Tough, but good decisions for MOVIN and KBKS when it comes to mornings. Lots of options locally and nationally. Stay tuned...

My bet is FITZ is under contract and would cost a fortune for KBKS or MOVIN to seduce away after the strong Spring book. There are no non-compete's anymore in Washington State contract law, so it is possible but my bet is Entercom would match any bid.

Jubel and Marcus D would be a good choice for KBKS mornings or Curt and Corine at STAR. They do a nice job, but live under the shadow of the aging Kent and Alan show.

Whoopi makes some sense for MOVIN, but is untried and would cost a ton of inventory in prime drive. Jubel is the obvious choice, but my bet is KBKS locks him up soon. Curt and Corine would be my second choice and Jackie and Bender would be a cheap option, but they didn't do well at KBKS so that is a cheaper, but unlikely option. Not many other local choices, they may have to look out of town.

With all the talk of talent being moved to other stations, does anyone know when contracts are up for Jubel, Sammi, Curt and Corine, or Fitz? AND do you really think any of the stations in town would be ballsy enough to steal another station's talent away? I hope so... It would be an interesting way to shake things up.

I just got a text message and apparently it's official: Jackie and Bender will NOT be returning to KBKS mornings. Jubal and Sammi have made quite an impression with management this week, and word has it that with the new afternoon talent arriving next week, Marcus D will indeed be making the move to helm an exciting new, revamped morning show at KBKS.

Is this the answer to the station's declining ratings to KUBE and T-Man? Also, what does this mean for FITZ who has been exploring the enforceabilty of his non-compete contract in Washington state and has been campaigning "behind the scenes" to take over the morning show at KBKS?

Do you really think that fitz could end up over at kiss? Not sure what all this contract talk is... kinda been drinkin' so might make more sense in the morning... but would the wolf really let him go? It seems to me like he is a god over there... fitz this and fitz that. He just looks like a big goober to me.

I'm just saying that Fitz seems to be doing well over on the wolf, and the wolf seems happy with him... is he not happy over there? Why would he want to change stations, Seattle/Tacoma is a huge market for country. Hard to say.

There have been a lot of assumptions by people on this board (myself included) that ivegotafaceforradio and takeitfromme is Fitz... And reading over the posts, pronounciations, spelling, caps etc. are all the same w/both user names... so lets just say that is Fitz, the majority of the posts by both usernames have all been pro- Marcus D, uh I mean EXTREMELY PRO-MARCUS D..

Anyway, my point finally, seems to me fitz and marcus d are good friends, he has mentioned on air (yes I listen from time to time, can't stand ichabod and randy) he has mentioned that he is good friends with some people over at CBS... maybe something in the works there?? or have I had one too many tonight?

Oh, also this thread was started by one of usernames assumed to be fitz....

Congratulations everyone, I've probably had one too many as well, so I'm going to come out and say it: It's me, FITZ! I'm so great, and I spend all my time on Radio-Info trying to gain the respect of the five regular contributors to the Seattle-Tacoma boards! Anyway, back to my original post of KBKS Mornings, I do think Jubel (Jubil or Jubal?) would be a great fit... or, he could take what's left of KBKS's morning audience over to Movin'. Not sure if Sami or Marcus D would be the right fit as a co-host though... niether of them are very impressive either. Maybe me (FITZ) and him could join forces!!!

You posted that 19 hours after they came back.

Is the point of this website to start rumors about obvious things that no one would believe?
