KBKS Stunting, Bender out

Has any station ever faked a firing in the way you suggest, right down to the DJ being "fired" tweeting a heartfelt farewell to his listeners? That would be a "work" worthy of WWE's writers! In fact, that sort of thing has gone on in professional wrestling for years: Wrestler is shooting a movie or needs surgery or is getting married and has a long honeymoon booked? No problem! Just tell the fans he's been "suspended" or have him lose a "loser leaves town" match, then write him back into the picture a month or two later.

Mr. Gleason would know more about this, but I think there's been an April Fool's stunt or two where this happened.

Stunts like this have been done... most "memorable" is the "DJ has gone missing" at WMJX in Miami. Money offered to find him, but he was not even in town so nobody could win. Hoax. Station lost its license.

Broadcasters are careful about distinguishing hoaxes from stunts. There is considerable risk in the former, and since group owners all have a "Risk Management" department that has to clear all contests and promotions, this would be the kind of thing that would likely not pass muster in today's environment.

Which is not to say that it couldn't. Just that it is unlikely.

I think we are, to translate a Spanish saying, "trying to find the fifth paw on a cat".

I’m going with they got the “guy and girl” duo on at night. Add a third mic (or, “Seattle’s Funniest Person” or whatnot), you have a morning show.

Whether it works or not is yet to be seen. I’m not terribly hopeful knowing iHeart Seattle’s track record recently.

We got all worked up....for THAT?

No WONDER iHeartMedia is bankrupt. Their ideas are about as plentiful as their cash flow.

Cripes....here in my home market(Buffalo, NY)two stations from across the border(which have a history of underperforming in their own market(St. Catharines-Niagara)came under new ownership(from a company which is more into radio consulting, though it does own another station near London, Ont.). For the entire month of February, they were running promos on both stations saying that a new format was coming to each station. Come March 1st, said formats debuted: the 101.1 frequency became 70s-90s 101.1 More FM, while 105.1 took the music that WAS on 101.1 before the change and became known as The River. THAT was a well-done reveal. This? Not so much.
Uh dude you are in Buff-a-fawking-lo - a market that aint worth squat just like your football team. And secondly you are talking about Canadian radio stations in BFE and comparing them to Seattle market 12? Go back to your lake effect snow and ****.

Note: it's fine to disagree, but there is no need to be insulting. Note that Buffalo is a major market, and happens to have a revenue rank that is much higher than its market rank. Folks in other markets might want to look at what the local stations do to get a higher share of ad budgets than other similarly sized markets.

Soooooo....you gonna answer the question of why you're so bitter and attacking people ad nauseum, troll?

Sooooo does KBKS win the troll of the year award?

I'd nominate them for the prize - especially since the "comedian" isn't going to front the new morning show:
http://ramp247.com/pros-in-motion/construction-dust-settling-kiss-seattle/

It's now "Carla Marie & Anthony" in the morning with a player to be named later. That so-called funny person.

As for the rest of the lineup:
Middays: Molly Mesnick (former morning co-host)
Afternoons: Zann
Nights: EJ (tracking from KIIS-FM/L.A.)
Overnights: APD/MD Zach “Mayhem” Wellsandt.

And you know this because of your extensive history in comedy? IMO the only comedy you are good at is posting here.

Wow, who pissed in your corn flakes? The "so-called funny person" is the one the station says its seeking. I only know good comedy when I see it. Or in your case, reading it.

No wait, I take that back. I'll take the high road here and not resort to childish attacks like yours.

That's a kind of bipolar way of looking at it, I suppose.

Flip that bleepshow of a CHR station to some other format. The Breeze, The Mountain, KJR Sports 106.1 + 950, I don't care. Kiss FM is an embarrassment to the Seattle radio dial. Seriously, they hire two 'already-staffed-with-iHeart' people instead of the funniest person in Seattle? Like, someone who lives in Seattle, Bellevue, Bremerton, Tukwila, Bothell?

Blow up a heritage morning show that had a solid connection with the community.

Run promos on the air saying you're seeking the next morning show, "Seattle's funniest person" to be "real", conduct "search" with the legitimacy of a North Korean election.

Screw around with the music; play with pitch control and add construction sound effects.

Don't mention the station name, but keep plugging the kissfmseattle website on the air.

Actually replace morning show with your night show, set them up with two other radio people, save the $10,000 "finder's fee", end up with a four person squad which has never worked together and does not have a local PD to nurture and guide them.

And there you have five months of Kiss Seattle.

That's about right. I had KBKS on yesterday and the only mentions I heard of Kiss FM in the 45 minutes or so I listened were at the top of the hour where it was mentioned in the legal, and once while mentioning the website. Everything else simply says 106.1. I wonder if there's something bigger, like a rebranding coming to 106.1? It really sounds like another placeholder format for iHeart.

This isn't a placeholder format for Kiss, it's the real thing.

The tactical execution of the format is terrible. The morning show promo says the new show starts on "Monday, April 1st, April Fool's Day". After six months of stunting, people are going to think the show is a joke and not real. That's the payoff you want to give your audience after almost a half a year of stunting?

I completely agree, the execution is terrible. Yes, I know this isn't a placeholder, but the way it is being executed you would think it was. If they are really serious about keeping the Kiss FM name, then why has it been used on air so sparingly over the past several months? I've only been seriously paying attention to the industry overall for about the last half a dozen years, but I am sure I would have remembered something like this if I had ever seen it before.

And after you finally 'train' and launch your new morning show, call the station the "New" for at least the next five years following. Cliche Radio 101.

Isn't KKWF still 'the NEW' Wolf?
KKBQ is still the 'NEW' 93Q Country in Houston, 27 years after it started branding as that.
