Clear Channel and CBS swap stations in Houston and four other markets
The no-cash swap – rumored since November in the T-R-I newsletter and the quiet appearance of CBS Radio boss Dan Mason at Clear Channel-Houston – solves a Department of Justice problem for Clear Channel. Back in February, it agreed to divest two FMs in Houston as a condition for being sold to Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners. So CBS gets Houston’s hot AC “Mix 96.5” KHMX and Spanish “Mega 101.1” KLOL from Clear Channel. CBS has the capacity to add more FMs to its Houston cluster, which currently has two AMs and two FMs. In return, CBS swaps away a total of five FMs in four different markets, including two of its “Jack” stations. Those are Seattle CHR KBKS/106.1. Baltimore classic hits “Jack” WQSR/102.7. Portland, Oregon’s rhythmic KXJM/107.5 and classic hits KLTH/106.7. And Sacramento’s “Jack” KQJK/93.7. Clear Channel is still under an obligation to divest stations in Cincinnati and San Francisco.

Don't tell me any of you are that naive.
Be on the look out for a format change, my guess is rock, to come after KISW.
TVradioguru said:Generally a dance format would be better suited for an HD-2 channel, rather than occupying a analog full channel. Although, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility of moving 106.9 to a dance/CHR hybrid to run along side/complement KUBE. Doing so and cross promoting the formats could be a death blow for the Seattle Movin', and bring their albeit meager numbers over, fortifying demos for CC.
AQH said:Are you naive enough to think that Clear Channel, a company that has frozen its promotion, research and other non-essential budgets, will dump the ton of money necessary to go up against KISW?
There's a lot more to format changes than buying new CDs.
In case you haven't noticed, Movin' has affected KUBE, and Kiss will protect KUBE just fine.
Funny how you always appear just as someone's been thinking of you, as I was earlier today.mammaknowsbest said:To all that thought Mamma was nuts. Remember when I said MOVIN and Monti would outlast KISS. Looks like it is the truth with Kiss becoming the automated stepsister to KUBE. mamma thinks the big winner here is Movin wherre the station can come in between KUBE and KISS and have local talent with local focus. Many thought Mamma was crazy but today MOVIN survives and is not cutting back and THE wOLF survives and is not cutting back while KMPS fires staff. MOVIN has beat KISS on a four book in every sigificant demo and WOLF has beat KMPS in four out of last five trends. A year ago I said times were a changing but my only regret is the economy is so bad. Mamma would be happy if this didn't mean so many people losing their jobs. Mamma is also out of radio now but am proud of the ya ya sisters at MOVIN and that they ended up surviving!!! Guess in the end mamma does know best.
