KBKS

How to fix KBKS?
That's easy just relaunch the station. Just have a countdown. Relaunch. All new talent and music direction. That's all they gotta do.

AMEN! Diss the KISS name... start over totally fresh! Hmm, speaking of fresh.... ::)

ya ya!!! KISS has two choices:FRESH or HIP-HOP/.POWER based Rhythmic. MOVIN has killed them, time to start over with a new team and Rivers in control. Fresh goes after WaRM and STAR, Power attacks KUBE and MOVIN. They could stay Mainstream but 106.1 has tried and failed at that. Maybe go after the boys anticipatting the people meter. ya ya inventive. anyone think Jackie and Bender will be picked up in town?

I'd rather listen to paint dry than Jackie and Bender! BLAH BLAH BLAH

The question is not whether someone in Seattle will pick up this show. That is very unlikely given their horrid ratings performance.
The question is: can they be coached to become a better show and grow with KBKS as they adjust? This will require less talk, more music and a revamped
approach. The days of stunts and celebrity interviews are long gone. Today's Mainstream CHR hosts meld with the music and are more about the listening
experience and serving listeners expectations. This is a 1998 show, that needs a complete restructure. Will they adapt?

The "KISS" brand is strong, and there is ABSOLUTELY a place in Seattle for Mainstream Top 40.
Movin didn't kill anyone, they simply benefitted from the hole a weak KBKS helped to create, a strong mainstream
Top 40 closes that hole (and opportunity for Movin's success) quickly.
Although I agree with Professor that Jackie & Bender need some serious coaching to be able to grow with the station, it might be even easier to bring in a morning show that "gets it" from the start.

The simple answer here is to repair a premiere brand doing a terrific format, NOT to blow it up for "Fresh" or "My"
or any other flavor of the week format.

USSR you are absolutely correct. There is a market hole for a well-run Mainstream CHR. KBKS provides that brand, but has done such a poor job that MOVIN has been allowed to exist in Seattle, while it fails in every market that contains and sustained Mainstream CHR. I suspect CBS realized that when they made a change in consultant and Program Director. I have it on good authority that the new PD has complete freedom to make changes needed to make KISS a competitive brand. I also suspect that Jackie and Bender know they will need to completely revamp, or they will be gone.

Blowing up a station is never a good idea, if it is a sustainable brand. This market is full of stations that have reinvented themselves. KCMS is an excellent example of a station that had no significant impact on the market two years ago, but has created a strong brand through wise imaging and marketing. KJR-FM has reinvented itself in the last couple of years. Most recently KPLZ has seen significant ratings improvement with their somewhat unique approach to HOT/AC, which is now being replicated in several markets with some success, by their consultant. I suspect KPLZ hired this consultant and the GM forced the PD and morning show to listen. They adapted, so they survive. KBKS has a new consultant and new PD, my guess is the morning show and the old PD will listen if they expect to survive.

There may be a market hole for Mainstream CHR but not for KBKS. The calls are tainted and the ego driven morning show over. The station needs a FRESH start.
hey hey, yaya goodbye.

If you're advocating FRESH like in NYC, it would get crushed in Seattle. Too much going after that specific demo.

As for tainted calls? What does that mean?? Usually its call letters that carry baggage from another format,
but if the format (we we seem to agree) works, than the call letters are rehabilitated with the station.
KUBE was once getting killed by KPLZ, Z-100 in Portland was dead about 5 years ago,
Rivers made a KISS work famously in Boston, he made a KISS work even more famously in Los Angeles, and I have no
doubt he'll achieve the same success in his hometown.

Is it possible KISS could keep the KBKS call letters and call themselves "Power" or something else to indicate change. I have seen calls stay the same, but station imaging change. Kind of like KBSG did when it became B-97 or KPLZ when it became STAR. Just a thought. My hunch is they will just keep the KISS phrase and retool the product to create revenue and ratings. Steve Rivers is a nationally known CHR programmer with a strong track record.

I found a great "retort" clip on YouTube...but they pulled it for Copyright Violation!!! Darn!! It's the clip from Family guy where a morning show is doing a remote and every time they grunt a sentence it's punctuated with a whole series of imaging, jingles, liners, etc. back-to-back. GREAT parody of radio clutter!! ...so consider yourself "annotated" by using your imagination!!!!

I meant to say. Why not relaunch kiss fm? Wouldn't that work. Same format, just I think they really should go in a more rhythmic lean to go after KUBE. That'd work really really well. If they were smart, they'd do that.

You're kidding, right?

They've been trying exactly that; to tap into KUBE's numbers. That is one of the reasons why they dug the hole they are in right now.
