USSR you are absolutely correct. There is a market hole for a well-run Mainstream CHR. KBKS provides that brand, but has done such a poor job that MOVIN has been allowed to exist in Seattle, while it fails in every market that contains and sustained Mainstream CHR. I suspect CBS realized that when they made a change in consultant and Program Director. I have it on good authority that the new PD has complete freedom to make changes needed to make KISS a competitive brand. I also suspect that Jackie and Bender know they will need to completely revamp, or they will be gone.
Blowing up a station is never a good idea, if it is a sustainable brand. This market is full of stations that have reinvented themselves. KCMS is an excellent example of a station that had no significant impact on the market two years ago, but has created a strong brand through wise imaging and marketing. KJR-FM has reinvented itself in the last couple of years. Most recently KPLZ has seen significant ratings improvement with their somewhat unique approach to HOT/AC, which is now being replicated in several markets with some success, by their consultant. I suspect KPLZ hired this consultant and the GM forced the PD and morning show to listen. They adapted, so they survive. KBKS has a new consultant and new PD, my guess is the morning show and the old PD will listen if they expect to survive.
