KBXD DX-Test

KBXD is now what's on 1480 in Dallas. 50KW days and thanks to a member of the National Radio Club they're firing up the big rig this coming Sunday morning.

I'm also an NRC member (and know that others here are too) so I thought I'd pass this along. The station has some very specific requirements for reporting the test for verification so please follow them.

And if you don't hear them drop 'em a line and say "thanks."

This station qualifies as DX for me when they are on night pattern. They are hard to hear at my QTH at night. Their antenna site is in southeast Dallas county and I'm about 15 miles northeast of there. Thanks to a long silent period and copper thieves the entire site was rebuilt and has been on since November iirc.

Tune in!

Sunday March 17 – 0000-0200 CDT (Saturday night into Sunday morning)

KBXD is testing its brand new full 50-KW six-tower day pattern – see online at http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?ca ... =C&hours=D

Morse code, sweep tones, special music and other easily identifiable content.

No e-mail reports accepted. Reports should be sent by regular postal mail. KBXD is graciously covering the cost of mailing out QSLs, so no need to send a SASE. Reports must include written or printed information with the listener's location, equipment used, and details about content heard. Please note that audio materials will not be returned.

Please send reports to:

AWESOME! Thanks for the tip. Their 50kw D pattern doesn't favor me, but I had good luck with the WWXL DX test last week.

just replying to move the thread to the top of the page...
and remind anyone interested that this happens tonight @ midnight central

I'll be looking for KBXD from WA state. It would be TX #5 (I have KRLD, WBAP, WOAI and KVNS from TX logged). I usually don't try for DX tests - obviously the KRPI one last year went well, but at 80 miles - easy, easy. I also tried for the KRSN-NM test on 1490 last year, but only got KSKR Roseburg during that time.

From NE NC. Tried 1480 but nothing heard of the DX test. Conditions not good. Did get a new one on 1480, WCHZ Augusta, GA. Thank you for the tip and information. Will try again for the next DX test.

Reports say that NO morse code or sweep tones were broadcast from KBXD, on air or off the webstream! So almost no one got an ID for KBXD (one in FL and that's about it).

I thought this would be a slam dunk in the Chicago area based on the power and pattern data, but I listened for more than an hour and couldn't hear anything identifiable. The conditions were not good last night-- 1480 was just a jumble and sounded only slightly less congested than 1490.

By contrast, WMOB continues to pound in every night on 1360!
