I thought it might have been a mistake in the Spring 05 book but this is at least two books in a row that WAVZ doesn't even show!

As an alumni of this station in its Top 40 heyday I feel very sad.

WAVZ is one big pile of turkey dump! No one listens to that 1 kw septic pump.
it's been garbage since 1992.

Looks like in the New Haven ratings KC 101 got beat by 99.1 WPLR, 94.3 WYBC, WQUN, WELI. Four Hartford stations also beat out KC 101 which is Country 92.5, Hot 93.7, River 105.9, WCCC 106.9. Also Star 99.9, WEBE 108 and in New York City WFAN 660 beat out KC 101.

At least they didn't get beat out by Kiss or Power in the Hartford Market. But these ratings for KC 101 have to say something.

KCI is a horrible excuse for a top40 station. They have consistently gotten their collective butts kicked by several stations outside the New Haven market.
They don't have a clue as to who they are targeting. Might as well be an AOTFR station
(All OVER THE FOCKING ROAD) station. Very, very sad!

You worked for wavz / weli and were there when Ron Rhomer was sitting on the couch in the loby that day kci moved into the building.

Of course they don't care. I realize this. But it's nice to laugh at all the high priced consultants and PD's who couldn't no more programm a station than you or I. They think they are God's gift to the industry. It's nice see what goes around comes around

Everyone has a viewpoint on the way radio should be done. But the only one that matters is the person who is getting a paycheck from the company.
My only beef is piping in network programming instead of giving a local talent the chance to cut their teeth.
But corporations like Cheap Channel don't see it that way.

The Arb numbers speak for themselves. If the present mgt team was there from 1985-1995 they would have been givin' pink slips.

Again, the proof is in the numbers.

Horrible management....A sales team run slightly like a brothel....and programming that was completely tacky and un original. Promotions that were pathetic. I actually heard them give away wall to wall carpet on kc 101 once!

You can't bring up numbers from 1985-1995 and compare numbers them to numbers today. It was a TOTALLY different landscape back then, both in stations on the air at that time and other forms of technology competing with radio (i.e. the iPod). Once you get an informed opinion we will listen - until then, you are useless.

Do you know who worked there? Dude the proof is in the numbers. That's all corporate cares about. They don't drop a hammer on the 3 losing stations (ELI,AVZ, KCI) cause Cheap Channel owns about 700 other winners. They couldn't care less about these stations. Once they don't cost more than they are worth to run. But that day is coming.

Dude, if your trying to convince me that KCI today is good sounding station...it's falling on deaf ears. Been in the business long enough to tell a good sounding station from one that is horrible.

I overstayed my welcome. Like a lot of other interns I should of did the internship and left I thought there was opportunity where there was none. I ran R2R voice tape of the PD (who by the way had no business being on the air cause he sounded like a woman) overnight until 530 before the almighty morning mouth arrived whenever he felt like it. I got him back one day. He was driving his Porsche 911 Carrera in from Westport and he was late as usual. The news skank finished her newscast 2 mins early. I played The Letter/The Box Tops 1:47F. Dead air after that for about 5 mins. Then he comes on and busts balls the overnight guy. Morning guy makes 150k a year and I am board operating overnights for 10k and he shows up late every day and I get my ass reamed out by mgt.
They had too few people for an AM/FM combo. The AM was off the air most of the weekend cause the 2 traffic girls kept screwing up the Program log cart numbers.
I worked there for 8 years and one day I walk into Faith's office for a meeting and she didn't even know who I was or what I did there. You know you're in trouble when the
GM doesn't know who you are or what you do there.

By the way, I remember the PD commenting about that night jock." I think he will be the next Rick Dees" Guess he was slightly delusional????

Believe it or not. When you talk about the scumbag morning guy ar the News Skank your co-workers may chuckle in front of you but, when you walk away to spread more negitive bs..they think of YOU as the scumbag that nobody wants to be around.
Did you talk to your pd in a positive way...The (morning dude) seems to come in late every morning...Is there something I can do to make sure the show goes well? That makes you look like the team player and let's the pd know that his highly paid porsche driving man is LATE.
Did you ever make a demo and ask for an honest critique from the pd...Then follow his advice and make another, and another till YOU were on the air?

I had a few opportunities, but looking back I would not have done it again. There are people that get on the air like that night jock you mentioned cause they are at the right place and the right time. Someone in mgt likes the way they sound and they get the gig.
Some of the people that worked there came from Wtby radio.
Who knows why I never met the GM? Just never gave it much thought. As a GM you should know what everyone does, including part-timers. With her it was all about the bottom line $$$$$$ SALES, SALES, and more SALES.
I should have been fired several times but they knew for the amount of work I was doing and what they were paying, they were making out. Doesn't make sense to be on salary when you work 70 hours a week and no OT.
Now I realize why all those interns (and there were plenty of them) opted to leave after their internship instead of taking a job in the Promotion Dept for $5.00/hr and all the gift certificates to Tommy K's you could stuff in your pants.

Jerry Kristafer was on KC101 around 20 years ago. If you liked him or even remember listening to him then, you are not the audience KC101 is targeting. Please - it is a top 40 station, why would you even bring up liking a 50 something year old dude in am drive when he did it for a moment in the 70s? This board shouldn't be called radio-info, it should be called radio-has-beens.

KCI needs a format change. They are getting beaten badly in the arbs. It's only going to get worse. Yes, they will have a few arb books where they spike a couple
of points here and there but overall that station is probably the worst sounding Top40 station in CT. They will always get the 12-17 year old leeching off mommy and daddy teenie boppers. But again, Cheap Channel doesn't care if all three stations AVZ,ELI and KCI are in the ratings sewer. They have a lot of other successful positive revenue generating stations to offset those 3 losers.
