KCBQ Moldy Oldies Sunday nights

Ok I was hopeful to hear oldies on KCBQ's legendary signal, but this moron on Sunday nights is un-listenable!! Ok KCBQ you need money, but not this bad!! The GM and the pd needs to actually listen to this garbage!! He steps on the post talks and sings with the song. The music is great, but this hillbilly needs to go back to his RV in Lakeside!! UGGGHHH this is terrible!!

I wish phil flowers was still with us he was running a pretty fun oldies show on the Q before he passed RIP Phil

This guy(Jumpin Jack Flash) read spots for the "Happy Car Warsh"...
600kogo, you understated just how bad he is. Please don't insult Lakeside.. maybe Brawley.

It's spelled Worsh!! And the dude needs to recut the one spot he had for a surplus store, and make sure not to put the fax number in the commercial.

And oh yah hes jumpin alright jumpin all over the music, all over the post. He is so bad that I heard he puts the phones on hold so that he doesnt have to hear the same complaints over and over.

Jumpin Jack Flash... Get a clue you're throwing your money away on that show and your terrible. Get a day job!

This thread is a little confusing to me. KCBQ has two oldies shows? One - the Saturday Night Sock Hop with Michael Vaccaro for two hours, starting at 9. And then another on Sunday night that I don't see listed on their website?

Michael Vaccaro doesn't seem to fit your description of a dj singing over the songs, constantly talking over the post.

It's not my very favorite music, but Saturday Night Sock Hop is entertaining, Michael is energetic and his picks are interesting, he takes phone calls on the air, plays requests and dedications, interviews artists - gee, a real radio show.

I congratulate him for getting it together and doing something he obviously enjoys. And to KCBQ for airing it - a welcome change from their constant right talk and dreary brokered shows - shows there is still some spirit in those 50,000 watts.

So, what is the name of this Sunday "Moldie Oldie" show and the dj you guys are talking about?

No there was another show that just got canceled that was on SUNDAY nights!! Mike's show is ok when the reverb isnt on the locker room setting.

And KCBQ has never been 50,000 watts at night, KFMB is 50,000 watts night in San Diego.

Jumpin jack flash that had the sunday show needs to go listen to Shotgun Tom on KRTH to get a clue how do dj!

Cool - thanks for the clarification, I was confused. Too bad Moldies II sucked.

Yes, I know KCBQ powers down, was speaking figuratively It always billed itself as "50,000 watt KCBQ."

I did like Phil Flowers show, sorry he passed away and I'm glad that KCBQ keeps a toe in the musical waters.

I grew up listening to KCBQ from the days of CBS and ABC through the rock years. I guess I have a soft spot for them.

The show that is REALLY good is on just before the "Saturday Night Sock Hop". It's called the Galaxy Moonbeams Night Site. It is some of the most stimulating and interesting listening I have done in a LONG TIME!

I have listened to it and enjoyed it - for some reason KCBQ won't stream on my computer, so I have to download the podcasts . It's really very cool that they air these shows. It's sort of like a turn back in radio history - buying time, doing your own show and selling sports/donations. whatever. Some creative stuff could happen.

It worked in the radio olden times.

KCBQ wont stream the Saturday Night Sock Hop or Galaxy Moonbeams Nightsite because KCBQ doesnt pay ASCAP or BMI to run music so they just stop the stream entirely at that point ! But you can get Galaxy Moonbeams Nightsite's podcasts and airchecks on their website.

What did Phil Flowers die of, if its not to personal to ask.

I remember hearing Phil on a taped, sign-off announcement for the frequent Sunday night maintenance at KCBQ. He ended it with the Knights In White Satin "gong"(at 6:42, long version). It had some 'class' compared to the competitors. Except KDEO, which never signed off...

Looking at all the folks that has stopped by to read this posting, The Legendary KCBQ still has great memories associated with the call letters and former air personalities. Too bad, somebody with a few $$$, couldn't buy the station and return it to it's glory days...

The person who should buy it, and has the money is Lee Bartel's son Richard Bartel!! He loves the history of the station he could actually do something decent with it. At present I would assume with billing equipment and such that its only worth about 2.5 million dollars that would be a drop in the bucket for Richard Bartel?

Only, 600KOGO, if you personally buy out Mark Larson's exclusive contract! It's worth yillions.
