KCGC 94.5 Coarsegold

So... did anyone else hear todays test?

Yes... Merced area (mobile this time). Good signal, suprisingly quiet carrier, considering it was competing with two co-channels KBAY & KGEN. Only one minor dropout heard. Modulation/loudness comparable with others. The signal & modulation levels must be decent, "splatter was heard on both the upper & lower adjacents. - So what to program to the masses in the homoginized valley radio bowl, who knows?

Did you happen to try to hear it in that area a month ago during the previous test?
As far as programming- hmmm ... How about a simulcast of KZPO? Given the bazaar ownership issues with KZPO, I realize the chances are slim to none, but it would serve to replace the long gone nostalgia format that 103.1, KAAT used to provide. The KZPO and KCGC signals would complement each other quite nicely- one serving North of Selma to Merced and the other, South of Selma to Delano.

In the same area, but stationary. Antenna at 60'. A Radio Shack VU190 I think it is (looks like it's been discontinued) w/ a 20dB amp (about 10 years old) actually aimed at (Walnut Grove) Sacramento at the time. Was about the same as todays report. Note: The receiver would stop on it with a "scan" so I'd say it was comparable.

I went on deliveries this afternoon on Chestnut and Willow from Butler to International and the signal had very little to no interference from KOKO 94.3 or KGEN.

Radio discontinued a lot of good items (especially their TV/FM antennas)
BIG MISTAKE!!!!

Back in the 80s at my old house in North/West Clovis I had the V/FM 185, which did not have the UHF, I used a separate UHF directional ant., I had a rotor on it, I would point it at Walnut Grove and pick up KCRA 3, KVIE 6, KXTV 10, KOVR 13 , and the FM worked better than the more recent FM Directional antennas than Radio Shack has.

Me too! I used to shoot for those stations and they came in clear. I had a VU-190, (190 miles VHF, 120 miles UHF and 100 miles FM) Good antenna but I left it behind by mistake when I moved to a different house. I am still kicking myself to this day for not bringing it!

Currently, I have a U-120 UHF, and one other U-120 I found in NW Fresno during Operation Clean up! I was a lucky man that day! On certain days (depending on the atmosphere) I picked up Channel 31, 40, 58 out of Sac which are also out of Walnut Grove. If I turned the antenna 180 degrees, I got 17, 23, 29,45 out of Bakersfield. On Sundays, 20-25+ years ago, I could watch the L.A. Rams games on 23. THOSE WERE THE GOOD OL' DAYS! ;D

Now with HD and digital stations that were added locally, those Sac. stations are harder to get. It's kind of like trying to get 103.9 The Hawk with the interference from KRZR.

I have the Radio Shack Long FM only antenna (two full loops at he rear end) I could point this south and get great reception from the stronger Fresno stations here in Rancho Cordova, CA. I also have one of those VU-190 antennas too with a rotor, in my storage that i need to clean out in the next week. If anyone is interested send me an email via this site.

Isn't KZPO FM still for sale ??? I thought some broker in Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispois still trying to sell KZPO, KPZE and KNGS FM ????

Testing today - good signal in Sunnyside area - Feb 14 2:30 pm. Same varied mix as before. Anyone hearing todays test? I wonder what 94.5 sounds like around Selma.

The CP is for sale. Just testing to get the license. Asking $ 600,000.

On again all day today. Same hour long "equipment test" loop.
Listenable signal as far west as I-5 Los Banos area.

Do you suppose potential buyers were driving the coverage area?
Stay tuned, I'm sure there's more to this story!

The FCC lists two sites - one is licensed and the other is a CP. Very strange, because it sounds like it's not actually on from the licensed site. Anyone know which one they're testing from?

Making deliveries in Fresno today to Valentine and Herndon a good clean signal all the way from Clovis and there was no interference from KOKO 94.3 in Kerman.

Caught the test coming from downtown tonight. Some interference from Vern's 94.7 around Willow and Bullard... Sounded pretty decent, not the processing found on some of the other stations in town. I was hoping for some form of Jack, I guess we have nothing really to look forward to but a sale..

Peak Fresno only has 4 FMs so they could buy it and bring back some form of a Jack format, just wondering if they were using the 400 watt transmitter site between Oakhurst and Mariposa or the 800 watts Closer to Coarsegold, close to where the original KAAT 107.1 was at.

Usually I can pick up Vern's station at my house, but not tonight, 94.5 KCGC is coming in clear at home, They could be using the 800 watts transmitter.

On again, still today.

Is the transmitter site "snowed in"? Still testing?
Same audio loop. More storms on the way.

This could be a marathon test!

Local control, no studio site (as I've heard)

Ho hum.

Where is Verns Station located? I sure cant hear the Firebaugh station in Fresno

Station in question on 94.7 is a low power "repeater" in N/W Clovis that usually runs on Weekends only and can only be heard about 2-3 miles from the "tower". I was at Target at Herndon and Willow today and it's not running today.

Verne's station was back on today heard it around 3 PM today real strong when I went to Best Buy today at Herndon and Willow signal strong on Peach ave, I wonder if he is interested in paying the 600K for a "real Transmitter" he does play aU-neak mix of Oldies not heard anywhere else, and Dick Barkley's oldies on Saturdays. and does play music KABX will not play anymore.
