KDFC Program Director Thinks Classical Format Is Doomed When Entercom Takes Over

DougR said:
Rumor is Entercom continues to bring over sales managers from Cumulus so I doubt country is coming.

Because former Cumulus sales people can't sell country?

Here is a possible parallels to what might happen with KDFC, and gives some support to those who have been speculating that Entercom will blow up the classical format at 102.1.

From Don Barrett at laradio.com - Saul Levine announced today that he is flipping K-Mozart FM in Los Angeles to a Country music format. It will now be "Go Country 105" (KKGO). The classical format will remain on Levine's K-Mozart AM (1260, coincidentally), and on the 105.1 second HD channel. He has also offerred to keep all of the current classical DJs for the 1260/HD simulcast.

Until now, Los Angeles was without a Country station for the last 6 or 8 months, since KZLA switched to the "Movin" format.
God it flippd at 6AM.

Re: KDFC Program Director Thinks Classical Format Is Doomed When Entercom Takes

The Classical Music format is stronger ratings wise in San Francisco than in LA. In LA, country seems to do better than in the Bay Area.

I'm sure this will stir up a hornets nest but...

The Bay Area appears to be more sophisiticated than LA when it comes to the arts.

The unfortuante thing about what could happen if KDFC flips is that the bay area will be without a classical music station. There isn't an viable non-com signal available from what I can see.

I honestly really want there to be a Top 40 station/Country/or whatever else that SF needs on these frequencies. I don't like the duplicates SF has same as NYC. NYC has 3 Rap & R&B type stations. Also, they have like no rock stations or even like oldies or CHR-Rhythmic-country for that matter. They have Jack, I hate jack. KTU really needs to become a "real" Dance station. But SF has KMEL,Wild, & Alice, they really aren't being smart. KMEL & Wild are owned by CC. CC has 2 hip hop stations why? there's no point to that. honestly just need 1. what the heck man!

CC has 2 hip hop stations for one reason only. To prevent some other company from competing with them. If KYLD were to change formats to Rock, I guarantee you that another station will flip their station to hip hop. CC wants a monopoly on hip hop radio in the Bay Area.

It's called a flanker. Same deal with 1050. They don't need 2 sports stations, it just keeps someone else from coming in and muddying up the water for KNBR, the Giant, Throbbing 68. CC has always kept the two stations to suck the air out of the room, so no one else can afford to do hip hop.
