KDKA changes

Changes are reportedly coming at KDKA radio....

Tradio with Rick Bergman Saturday 3-6
Dimitri Live & Local Saturday 6-9
Local talk 9-12 (Rick Bergman this Saturday 8-30)

Carol Lee Espy is gone. Rob Pratte is making comments on air about being tired of being "second fiddle"

Any one know what is going on? And when is Honzberger coming back? He said on air the end of August. This is the last week of August.

Tradio with Carole Lee Espy has been on KD on Saturdays from 4-6 since Steve Hansen was PD. At least 2 or 3 years. Unbelievable as it sounds.

Wasn't Clarke Ingram a Top 40 DJ back when Top 40 was still called "Top 40"? So why all the comments about him playing oldies? If he was one of the top Top 40 guys back in the day, wouldn't he still be a "Top 40" guy today, except they'd call it CHR?

yes, when I heard Tradio on there a week after the end of the last Bucco game
I took them off my presets for good. What a joke! Are they looking at doing Radio
Bingo from the Michigan U.P. now? Only a matter of time till they are shut
down in the name of Going Green.

I at least give KD credit with Tradio...they took a cue from the small market stations that were making money with it. And KD's doing it on the weekends. I haven't heard it for myself, but since that weekend slot isn't doing anything else revenuewise, why not?

Tradio is just another example of the dramatic decline in a once great radio station. Can you believe that the station that once was home to Roy Fox, John Signa and Perry Marshall now programs offers Griffin, Miller, Steigerwald, O'Reilly and Miller?!? Tradio fits right in with that group. Never thought I'd say it, but, "Hurry back, Fred!"

Rumor is also that the Big K will be going all syndicated programming after the 1st of the year.

Tradio on the Big K....What will be next obituaries?

Bill, what would they syndicate?

Would they put the syndicated shows they have on now, Miller and O'Reily, on in their regular time slots? Would they bring back Boortz? Would they make a play for Limbaugh, Hannity, and Savage?

As it stands now, most of the syndicated shows I would think worthy of the call letters KDKA have been taken by other stations.

I really can't believe this. The last remaining appeal of the brand name KDKA is that it is where you turn to for information.

DOn't forget they are probably for sale, and therefore want to cut costs. My guess is Griffin is out Jan 1 at the very least. As for Limbaugh, Hannity and Savage, CC has them and isn't about to lose them. Maybe Ingraham, since she lost her Pgh affil 1360. Miller will probably end up pm drive, when Fred retires and noon - 3 could be Boortz. This all would be a disaster of course, but I wouldn't put it past them.

KDKA has unbelievably bad 25-54 numbers during middays now. They are literally as bad as 1360's.

If they go with Boortz, Laura Ingraham, etc how could it be any worse?

On the other hand, regarding Kenhawk's observation that he "gives KD credit" for thinking like a small market station on the weekends, I have to disagree. If you think like a small market station, before you know it, you will be one.

No probably about it, KDKA is for sale along with the other CBS stations in Foster Plaza. Until or unless the station is sold they are under orders to make further cuts in their already depleted staff. Rumor is that as many as four bodies are on the chopping block and its looking more and more as if Fred will be one of them. They are looking to save "real dollars" and save them now.

Almost no chance they are going all syndicated. CC has Rush and Hanity locked up and the only shows they could get their hands on in this market in 2009 that they don't already get from Westwood One is Billy Bush. Additionally several larger chains have become quietly worried that a change in the White House could mean drastic changes in the way the FCC views license renewals and potential local content regulations.

What KD is doing right now is just giving up. Tradio is just awful no matter who is hosting. Its small market, niche programming at its worst designed to squeeze an extra $5 out of the three people listening. The station would be better just plugging CNN into the board for the weekend and sending everyone home.

Bet they wish they still had those Pirate $$ coming in.

I am sorry that I didn't make myself clear.... I was meaning that the Local NEWS and all Local programing was going away. What a way to kill a blow torch.
