I'll choose celeb photos over autographs anyday!
And correction on The Mix... SIXTEEN years of this coming up in May. And remember that the last three or four years of the old KMGC-Magic 102.9 were nearly identical in format to Mix.
But this would lend to a good discussion...why do some things work elsewhere but not here? I know there's a HUGE convenience factor to having little radio "franchise" names/formats in each market (i.e. Mix, Jack, Live/Free, Movin', Memories, Arrow, etc, even AMFM's old "Jammin' Oldies") as you can program them the same and from afar and save loads on not having local PDs and MDs. But there comes a time when reality has to override convenience, right? If the format's not making it in certain areas, DROP IT and put something else on.
Think of it this way: Next time you're driving around Houston or San Antonio, look at all the retail chains that have thrived forever in those cities, but failed long ago in Dallas. Luther's BBQ, Brake Check, Big Sur Waterbeds, even Walgreen's before they re-attacked Dallas in the 90s...those come to mind right off the bat. I guess we're just fickle here or something...but there comes a time that you cut your losses and move on.
But remember the old chatter on the board about Susquehanna and how they must have justified, book after book, the poor performance at KDBN and KLIF to their corporate headquarters. The consensus here was that the Dallas office must have been throwing KPLX's successes in corporate's face when the questions would come up, and it served as a convenient distraction from the failures elsewhere. Maybe there was something positive in the AGGREGATE/TOTAL ratings of the entire cluster; enough for corporate to believe the spin and leave things alone. My point is, perhaps this is what's happening with CC in Dallas...pushing an aggregate total to corporate and talking up the ratings of Kiss to distract from what's NOT happening at the other stations. I doubt a CC-owned station in San Antonio is allowed to sit and rot until a 0.0 is achieved.
