KDOX flipping from talk?

Not a bad idea. KDOX only has an 0.3 share. Plus KKLZ is #1 pulling huge numbers so there is room for a competitor.

A true oldies would probably pull shares from both KKLZ and KJUL.

One can only hope this means "amateur hour" (or three, as the case may be) is over once and for all.

Today Heather Kidd, along with Casey Hendrickson, stated that the format will be over soon. Heather said her goodbye today and Casey said he will be on until Friday. I'm hoping for 50's-60's-70's Oldies on both AM& FM, but either one would be OK. I listen every weekend.

If they want to keep the talk format they should at least consider going oldies on their new FM. There isn't room for two FM talkers.

IIRC, the FM is not allowed to operate "on its own" and has to rebroadcast another station (even an HD-2 qualifies as another station). They could put a new format on their FM's HD-2 or HD-3 and then simulcast on the KDOX FM facility, but its likely they will keep it as it is.

I have enjoyed the so-called "amateur hour" and was really happy when they found a home at KDOX. I'm going to miss listening to them. Also, it's sad (for me) to see another talk station go by the wayside. I'm not sure who goes to AM these days looking for music, but someone must, because stations keep flipping to that format. Does anyone know if KDWN, KXNT, or KMZQ are going to pick up any the other shows from KDOX, specifically Ingraham, Humphries, or Medved?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that KJUL broadcast in HD....so I don't believe this is a possiblity.

Yes, it is true. KDOX is now known as KOOL 102. Playing the hits of the 60's, 70's & Motown. Yes, they are streaming, so join the family!

I enjoyed Casey Hendrickson's final KDOX show today. The main subject was about how and why talk radio does so poorly in Las Vegas. Many of the callers couldn't fully comprehend how bad the ratings are, they think KDOX changing formats is some sort of conspiracy. A surprise caller today was former KXNT PD Jack Landreth.

Casey mentioned he is trying to get the KCMO-AM/Kansas City morning position. Whoever get's that slot will have big shoes to fill, Chris Stigal is a great talk host..he is now doing morning at WPHT/Philadelphia.

Now it's time to monitor the new Oldies format.

Doesn't KNPR 88.9 do well in ratings?

Before PPM, didn't KXNT reach the top 5? They now have a long way to go... the FM is not working either. Even when combined, they still aren't getting the ratings they want.

As poorly as KXNT-FM is doing I thought they would at least slowly rise each month. I thought they had nowhere to go but up. So I was surprised when they actually went down in December falling below a 1 share.

KDOX flipping formats is not going to help KXNT or any other talk station because their audience was so insignificant. For whatever reason Las Vegas continues to be one of the worst markets for talk radio ratings.

On 12-31-10, I accessed the Oldies 102 STREAM, under KDOX 1280 Link. It will take you to Oldies 102.3 FM & 1280 AM.
