KEEP PARTY 105 IN LONG ISLAND!!! BRING BACK PULSE 87!!!

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!!!

As I mentioned on yuku.com, we are officially mourning the end of Pulse 87. We finally had a station we felt was our own... a local station that advertised and supported LOCAL business, a station that knew and understood its community and what it NEEDED to hear.

I DO NOT support Party 105 playing its corney long island mix in Queens while advertising Suffolk county businesses. Pulse 87 even had a float in this year's Greek Independence Day parade, among other promotions at local mom & pop businesses. It was a local station for it's local listeners.

I actually looked forward to driving back towards Queens and picking up 87's week signal... I knew i was heading home.

The demographic is different in Queens than Suffolk, and the DJ that I heard on the radio today around 6 PM with DJ Surge that sounds like the TGIF waiter in the movie Office Space with the flair isn't going to cut it. SORRY.

As a local small business owner myself, I feel we have lost more than just another radio station, but a voice that reflected the community on the air amongst so many commercial stations.

And what's this about the Original Hot 97???? I had to look down and make sure I wasn't wearing Z Cavaricci's or that my jeans weren't rolled up!

Guys, its 2009 going on to 2010. The economy is bad and the general feel air is gloomy. WE NEED NEW, FRESH THINGS NOT A BLAST FROM THE PAST! I remember listening to Hot 103 when it became Hot 97.... LEAVE IT IN THE PAST!

ON BEHALF OF ALL THE LISTENERS IN ASTORIA AND THE BUSINESSES THAT INVESTED IN ADVERTISING AND SUPPORTING THE STATION, BRING PULSE 87.7 BACK AND REMOVE PARTY 105.1 FROM QUEENS AIRWAVES. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!

Keep in mind everything happened very fast. The deal went down Friday afternoon/evening, not really enough time to start getting potential Queens sponsors and business's on board, don't worry it will happen.

yeah, I understand, but its not the same.

outsiders trying to understand the local market.

long island is long island. nyc is nyc.

nobody wants to hear some offbeat version of Stevie B like they played the other day. KTU has enough of that.

Yes. I can understand your disappointment in the loss of the station. While I thought Pulse could've had some specialty shows that focused on dance subgenres other than the mainstream New York dance sound, I appreciate that the guys behind Pulse did their best to make the dream happen. However, the fact is that the business failed. Nobody likes to read that a station that they like went out of business or changed under new owners. So it's understandable being angry at the situation.

I did say at another thread that Party FM would be, basically, a Long Island station broadcasting on a New York frequency. It's not a situation that I would prefer but then Long Islanders have to suffer the "indignity" of New York stations blasting into their way. So I guess it's fair play. ;)

My hope that it's the beginning of their radical transformation into a NYC station in spirit if not in physical presence. Barring that, Party could split into "Party FM NY" and "Party FM Long Island" and have a separate studio for big city DJs. Let's not put the cart before the horse, though. Party FM has to first prove that it has staying power. So we'll just have to live with the "Long Island station" for now.

You keep repeating this over and over again, but the station did not fail. The company which ran it failed, in large part due to problems it faced even before the launch of Pulse. If anything, Pulse was successful enough that it led to a "stay of execution" for Mega Media.

A 1.0 and 1,000,000 cume on a station few people can even receive or knew existed is not a failure by any stretch of the imagination, despite what the "experts" and microwave ovens would like us to believe.

We feel just like you, indeed PULSE 87 was an original concept straight from New York City.Even though Pulse had a weak and static signal,it was able to get an Arbitron rating of 1.0.Since Vic Latino is one of the owners (party 105) I'm sure he will have to do some drastic changes to satisfy the NYC crowd.Time will tell but our voices and suggestions might help a bit.Hey by the way did you listen to the original HOT 97? It went online,it sounds similar to pulse 87.7
http://www.originalhot97.com/
This is the concept replacement most New Yorkers would like to hear over the air waves.

I'm glad that the deal happened super fast and that there's at least some dance music getting air play. There is always that other possibility that Pulse could've disappeared, nothing happens, and everyone was left with nothing. At least unlike here in Phoenix Az, A deal was managed to unfold to at least do as much as possible to keep it from being a "total loss" in New York.

You wrote the same thing on the Unofficial Pulse 87 board on yuku, which I run. What are you trying to do here?

First off, I was hurt, just like the rest of the folks that loved Pulse 87 as well. As a matter of I WAS IN THE STUDIO STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO ALEX SHVARTS WHEN HE MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT (reread that if you need to, just for clarification.) and I was one of the names he mentioned on air. Pulse 87 had a great 20 month run. And I will echo what everyone said. IT WAS THE FINANCES of the company that killed Pulse, not Party taking it over (reread that too).

What you are NOT getting is the fact that, yes Party FM DOES NOT sound like Pulse. But then again, this is DAY ONE and things will eventually be tweaked. Understand this.....VIC LATINO is one of us, a local person. He also knows dance music (remember him on 'KTU?) If he feels that things have to be tweaked, to get to the advertisers and the new listeners of Party on 87.7, HE WIL DO SO. I have the utmost confidence in him. And if you want to get your business advertised on Party FM, you CAN (I believe they have an office somewhere in Queens?). I mean, it isn't as if the station is run out of Podunk, Iowa. If you want to get even more technical? Queens is physically on Long Island! :)

What you are doing is causing a riff and divide amongst the dance music community by your tirade, something that we cannot afford to do. I'm telling everyone this and I will tell it to you....GIVE THINGS TIME!

As far as the Original Hot 97 goes, it doesn't sound as if you've tuned in because that station is basically "Pulse" without the "British Betty" sweepers! And if I am not mistaken, Pulse did play its share of classic dance here and there too!

Mega Media, the company that ran Pulse, is out of the picture. Pulse IS NOT coming back. If you want your business to be heard on Party, talk to a sales rep there. If anything, you'll get MORE listeners tuned in since you'll also be tapping into Suffolk County as well.

Just stay the course, friend. I'm going to delete that Yuku post.

If you have any further concerns, talk to me. But I'm not going to let you or anyone RUIN things for the dance music community. I can't allow that. Do understand.

Since you're a business owner, take out a loan, buy the station from Island Broadcasting and program it. Otherwise, you sound hysterical.

Hi everyone and thank you for reading my post and for your replies and opinions.

I want to especially thank Tony Santiago for actually being at the station and supporting the station we all grew to enjoy so much.

Tony, the last thing I want to do is start a divide of some sort within the dance music community. I was simply stating my opinion and disappointment as a listener in losing a station like Pulse so soon.

But like most listeners, we are unaware of the hidden business behind a radio station. And when we the listeners don't hear what we want any more, we're going to complain, as we all should. To sit back and give things time without stating our opinions as listeners is meaningless, even if it means causing a stir. Nothing wrong with a stir every now and then... that's whats wrong with our society if you ask me. Sitting back and giving things time is what got us as a nation in the mess we're in.

Regarding Party 105, I'd be more accepting if they were the Party 105 from a couple years ago. We all know they don't sound anything like they used to a couple summers ago.

I'm sure everyone involved with Pulse and Party are experienced individuals with dance music's best interest in mind, but I would like to move forward from where Pulse left off, not wait a year for Party to catch up to where Pulse left off.

And yes, BiggieFats, if the banks were actually lending money to small business owners instead of holding on to bailout money making their pockets fatter and raising our interest rates for no good reason, maybe I would have!

So again Tony, I am not looking to ruin anything. Just looking to enjoy my radio once again, and I will support anyone with dance music's best interest in mind.

Regards,
Tom

OK... so let's start with YOU ARE A MORON... now that that's out... Pulse could not pay the bills, and while I feel bad that they couldn't build a business model to survive you should count yourself lucky you did't get a russian format or something back. You have not even given the folks at JVC a chance... your big gripe is that they are playing Suffolk County commercials in NYC... give them a bit more than a day... I'm 100% certain that the people at JVC are gonig to have a local studio and have local spots... duh... This harsh critisism would be warranted if 5 months passed and they were still not serving your community... Get a grip.

BTW... just read your latest post... sounds like you're getting it... good for you!

12:18 PM .... the back in the day buffet??? is this for real???

old songs spead up? whiney houston's "I get so emotional" spead up? so am i moron for thinking this is retarded?

just what I need to hear during lunch... not an hour long custom mixed compilation of serious dance music, maybe unveiling a new artist or a new song from overseas, no.... but Whitney!

this is exactly what I meant... nyc dance listeners are not about the korney mix. we a traveled bunch of listeners, 1st and 2nd generation americans from immigrant parents, that are craving what we hear on the radio when we go on vacation overseas.

TIESTO!!!!!!!! GRACE NYC AIRWAVES WITH YOUR MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and not just with one song either!)

to the powers that be, i hope you are listening... you want to do something right? take what is playing right now on the radio, nov. 3rd back in the day buffet, AND DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE!!! i dont want to listen to a long island bar!!!

and you know what, i hope Part 105 DOESNT change, for the sake of ITS OWN listeners. why should they change their format to accommodate our needs here in the city???

if its works for them, that should be enough. theyre going to ruin it for long islanders because management is getting greedy trying to expand to much.

WE NEED A DEDICATED STATION. PERIOD.

I think people should start making arrangements for my funeral and put me on a suicide watch because I AM DYING to say something right now! DEAD SERIOUS! .... But I wont even start.

The temptation to want to say something is extremely high at the moment, but this is not the time or the place to get into those type of issues.

Have a chill pill:

Yeah KDM!!! Your comments on these boards have been driving me CRAZY these last several days. Do you know something the rest of us don't??? Spill it!!! lolol... Are we getting a new dance station on a full power frequency in NY soon? Is PartyFM going to play part in that? Or something completely different? etc... what?!?!?!?!? LOL

kdm... you know what i meant. dont twist it.

how is a radio station's management supposed to know what we want to hear? telepathic powers?

gotta speak up, and not sit back and wait, and that can be applied to many situations.

ive been listening to Party for the past 2 hours and its played NOTHING that would convince me to listen over Z100 or KTU.

is anyone tuned in or is it just me?? lol

I think Joel Salkowitz would be clever to reimage his "Original Hot 97" Live365 web stream as "Pulse 87" with the Emma Clarke voiceovers and Pulse playlist (which Original Hot 97 basically seems to play already, doesn't it?).

Of course it would not be the same without the personalities, but I think the Pulse branding with its more modern sound would be a better match to the current music mix than the old Hot 97 sweepers.
