KEEP PARTY 105 IN LONG ISLAND!!! BRING BACK PULSE 87!!!

...we are officially mourning the end of Pulse 87. We finally had a station we felt was our own... a local station that advertised and supported LOCAL business, a station that knew and understood its community and what it NEEDED to hear.

Mourning? It's just a radio station for christ's sake.

THANK YOU DANCE DIVA!!! finally someone gets me!!!

But all things considered, Tony Santiago is the voice of reason here... I must admit.

I feel fortunate to be in this market. It is by far the most dance friendly in the country.
We have Party FM, KTU, NOW and on HD, Pride Radio all playing some form of dance on regular rotation. Is it enough for the current dance die hards? Of course not but it's not bad either.
I miss Pulse as well and Party FM's current sound isn't as cutting edge or New York sounding enough for my personal taste. Party has a rather small market delivery at the moment.
That said, I do have alot of hope for the station. They've entered market number 1 and it would make sense that we'll hear some tweaking over time.
We are so lucky that Party took over 87.7. Let's count our blessings and thank JVC for doing so!!
Can you imagine if 87,7 were dead air or went back to Russian programming?

That would be a very good thing if 87.7 went back to Russian CHR music. 'Radio Visyo' (Radio Everything) was a great, unique station serving the largest Russian-speaking community in the USA. I wonder if Mega Media would still be in business if they never flipped the format the format from Russian CHR to Dance?

Obviously 'Pulse 87' was not profitable (in part because of the high cost to lease WNYZ-LP from Island Broadcasting). How did the profitability of 'Radio Visyo' compare to 'Pulse 87'? I know many businesses owned by Russian-speaking immigrants supported 'Radio Visyo', and Mega Media saved thousands of dollars per month by not subscribing to Arbitron.

Thankfully Russian music is still available on 99.9 'Gorod FM' (City FM):

I also hate the automatic assumption that, if you're gay, then you must love dance music. My sexual orientation doesn't determine my preference in music! I'm gay and I'm a fan of Alternative Rock! :)

I am actually GLAD you brought this up because on a future blog, I will talk about the stereotypes....the "gay", "clubbers trippin on E" and the "Guidos" because a lot of people DO stereotype these things. Yes, there are gays that like dance music, but as you mentioned, you're into Alternative Rock. I am sure there are those into R&B, hip-hop, country, classical, jazz, you name it! And no, not all clubbers are looking for crystal meth, nor are they all a bunch of Brooklyn and Staten Island guys raising fists up with the athletic shirt, chain and slicked hair!

I do need to get at these because there are those that think that THIS is what dance music is...and there is SO much more than that.

Hey Tony, remember this:

all the haters just need to chill. I worked with VIC in Orlando when we were both at Party in Orlando. He is a class act and knows what he is doing. He knows his dance music and breaks records before anyone else.

Nope you're not alone. I'm with you too aiboss1 and Dance Diva. I'm dissappointed...optimistic, but dissappointed. Maybe saying its like a Wisconsin Station might be over stated, but then maybe not, maybe its like a station from Madison. But to me, Long Island Radio has been very "Middle America" Sounding. NY, LA, and Miami have been my favorite markets, and to an extent San Francisco, and possibly Seattle. Boston's not that great and desrves better in my opinion, though Philly and DC are pretty good. All my personal opinion of course.

I used to listen to Party FM way back them in Orlando, it didn't last very long, I didn't think it was that great of a station.

* Here's the thing, Id probably LOVE Party FM if I lived in the hamptons. It would probably be my refuge station especially now, since its the closest thing to NYC style way out there.

Problem is, I live IN NYC, where we have KTU, NOW FM, Hot97, Power 105, Z100, etc.

**When I listen to Party 87.7 FM right now, what I hear is KTU with some static and commercials that don't apply to me. I think this is the problem. Many of Pulse's "hardcore listeners were "anti-KTU" so making Party FM some KTU style Long Island NYC compromise will tick off the most devoted listeners. In fact what ticks me off more is that I find my self listening now to clearchannel instead, KTU......HD2 that is! Pride Radio sounds more like Pulse than Party, and pretty much no commercials.

Has anyone realized that Pride FM sounds almost exactly like Pulse (only with a few classics thrown in randomly)

I just have to be honest here, loyal to music , or a station, my loyalty doesn't stick with a frequency. (Ex, when Rumba 107.1 switched to a simulcast of Top 40 (K-104?), I was devastated. 107.1 was "My #1 Station", I didn't say "Well atleast Top-40 is kind of like hurban, I still get the rap.) When I wanted top 40, I just played Z100 because of the better signal

I see that Party FM is trying, but Long Island and the 5 boros are way too different whether or not they are close by. I will give them the occassional chance still here and there during their "transition" But for now it seems (we'll see for how long) Pride FM 103.5 HD2 is my primary station. I think Clearchannel did this on purpose the timing that they did in the New York Market knowing that Pulse would eventually fold.

All in all, "KTU" and any clone out there may make my presets, but I will certainly be switching back and forth all over the dial

* Pulse 87.7 was probably the only station that I literally left on for hours at a time without having to chanel flip; while cooking, during meals, even instead of Primetime TV sometimes, the DJ's were incredible, especailly Borasio I remember. I even loved most of the funny/entertaining/or cool/unique commercials that fit in well, and seemed VERY localized. In fact most important (probably for advertisers) I was so excited about what song would come on next, I wouldn't DARE touch the dial during commercials. And I NEVER had to fear repetition (maybe a few really GOOD songs here and there) But the playlist was so diverse, even FOREIGN songs! and untouched songs elsewhere (Lady Gaga, before anyone else). The "British/European Lady" that always did the hillarios station IDs, announcing Pulse 87, and smart cutdowns at Z100, KTU, AND Now FM at the same time.

I doubt Party will be able to simulcast and hold the NYC audience, as at this point I would honestly rather the Russian CHR format, which was awesome, and smartly targeted. If they copied Radio Gorod?(spelling) Id definitely prefer it, to what Vic has done SO far (I always thought he was a bit overrated BUT that may have been KTU playlist restrictions, Im not sure.

I feel eventually 87.7 will split, either with same ownership and different programming, or with another owner, or gasp.... off the air :( silent (I hope not!) But the internet IS competition, and Pulse 87.7 set the bar too high. I doubt any company can match it. I want Radio...REAL Radio, unique, non-repetitive, if not, mp3player it is when away, maybe Pride FM for now at home, and once again an increase in streaming from Dance CHR stations in Europe where they seem to get it right.

Just my opinion ;)

I feel your pain. Party is no comparison to Pulse but it's no KTU either. They lean much more on current dance than KTU. To me KTU seems to have become more of a rhythmic CHR in competition with NOW.
Party is tweaking. Give it time. I spend lot's of time out on the North Fork and often listen to Party of 105.3. I can tell you that Party is much less hip, hop than it was even several months ago. With the new simulcast they're likely to be more cutting edge. They just entered market number 1 but things don't change over night. Vic knows NYC radio and they came in to fill the void. Let's see what they do. It hasn 't even been two weeks.
In the meantime...keep listening to PRIDE Radio. Good station in fact. Too bad you and I are the few wth an HD radio!!

Desi Arnez:
You made an excellent case here, indeed PARTY FM plays the same crap as the other stations. Why bother listen to a static fade out signal when you have HD FM stations with the same music. The worst part about PARTY FM,they always kill the mood by playing ghetto rap tunes.Sorry that type of genre belongs @ power 105 & hot 97.For this reason I purchased my JVC HD car radio to get away from the urban rap crap.Yes KTU's 103.5 HD2 "pride" does play similar tunes to PULSE 87.I just wish they would call it the NEW KTU instead of "pride fm".Time will tell if party FM will brake the barriers of pulse 87 listeners. For people who want to listen to an exact clone of pulse 87 listen to "RADIO G" online or your iphone.

While constructive conversation is always welcome I find it hard to take it seriously when it ends with a plug for ones own internet stream. Seems a little too self serving. And besides that, if someone loved the pulse and was interested in hearing that type of radio again, they could simply listen to the man who created it's station, The Original Hot 97.com, since the playlists were pretty identical.

Just sayin'

Maybe the Original Hot 97 wasn't enough remedy to sooth the issue with what's being heard on Party FM, that another stream had to be mentioned ;D

I would like to retract my post from yesterday!
I have been listening to PARTY since 10am this morning and have heard "maybe" a handful of current dance songs.

What is going on? They are getting worse rather than better.

I'm hearing Empire State Of Mind and "Forever" from Drake every hour. Run This Town I didn't hear today. Then again, I do channelsurf on radiotime. BTW, anyone else noticed Original Hot 97 is also on radiotime?

That's because everything is automated. Upper Management dictates what gets put into the machine and run over the airwaves, with breaks programmed in for commercials.

Gone are the days when the DJ pops into the studio and plays the tunes on the turntables. Even in the 80s, the PD had the DJs pop in those cartilages containing the songs mandated by mgmt, in the order that they want, into a giant machine that performs that task. Today, stuff like that is computerized. Basically the "jock" now comes in and occasionally says something about what songs are coming next but he/she no longer puts the songs on. Someone else does that task. The big exception is during mix shows, when songs are truly played live.

This supposed "tweaking" hasn't happened, yet, from reading the comments.

I understand where you are coming from, but to nitpick a little bit Party was actually the 1st station in the country to play Lady Gaga even before Pulse

Aiboss1 and DesiArnez6 ARE THE VOICE OF REASON from now on!
Rumba and Pulse were my FAVORITES
Tony Santiago keeps sippin on the Kool-Aid this time around with this takeover.

You do realize Vic Latino IS upper management for Party. ;)

Again, this is how Party started, and as much as we may hate to hear it, hip-hop won't leave Party and it hasn't since 1998. At this time, they will still simulcast on 87.7, which I know they will simulcast for a while, but again, we have to be patient. There was a tweak and still is, as I recorded streams from when they were "Party 105" and yesterday of "Party FM" and I did hear the difference. Vic and JVC just got 87.7. First, let them focus on getting advertisers in the NYC area before rushing to be their own brand. Second, I truly understand where everyone is coming from, and we ALL miss Pulse, but we all know Pulse came in way too late to save Mega Media, and since Mega Media was already broke from the start, Pulse just happened to be the victim of taking it in the place where the sun doesn't shine by the critics and the people in the back. Third, if Vic didn't take the 87.7 frequency, what would we get? Probaly Gorod FM, maybe hearing Compact FM bleeding through from 87.9? Be glad we have some dance music on 87.7 instead of having NO dance music on 87.7.

I'm not playing sides here, I'm just saying facts.

They were sounding good over this last weekend and it seems to be back to all that Hip Hop. It seems to be worst during the Natalia and Nikki shifts. I think Nikki needs to go and they need to bring back Andre the Dre Dog!
I do think one station can be Long Island and NYC, why many NYC stations have a LI audience so why not vice-versa?

They actually seem to have a rather loose playlist to me and at times sound like a completely different station. I've been listening everyday since they started broadcasting on 87.7. Some days they sound better than others....time of day doesn't seem to matter. It's just sporadic.
