KEGL Stunting

Here's the copy of the 40 second loop they started running at 8am:

"Coming at 10am, a fresh, new oasis of smooth energy, variety and number one hit music. The biggest collection of commercial-free greatest hits of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and today, with the most and best talk that the entire office can agree on. The new number one at-work choice, giving away thousands in cash, and playing anything from continuous new country favorites from yesterday and today, with the most music in the morning guaranteed. And now, in HD. See ya then."

Is this going to be country? We have too many of them here.

Eeekkkk! I expected it might be oldies, but a Mix1029 type format of country? ???

::)

C'mon...this sounds like a stunt-within-a-stunt:

A "fresh new oasis"? (KOAI)
"energy" (Movin')
"#1 hit music" (Kiss)
"greatest hits of the 60s and 70s" (KLUV)
"greatest hits of the 80s, 90s and today" KDMX)
"Number one at-work choice" (KVIL)
"New country favorites" (Twister)
"Most Music in the morning guaranteed" (? somebody uses that)

This is a joke, folks. Surprised they didn't say, "We soar like an eagle with your favorite songs..."

Anyone remember a pretty inventive stunting by KMGC when they flipped to KDMX? They were pop oldies one day, then "Kickin' Country" the next, and a few other things, just to throw people off.

HOWEVER...the reality here is that, outside this radio board, and away from the little buzz around the managers' offices at Clear Channel, I don't think anyone really cares about this. Format flips and promotions and all those things that ONCE attracted attention, the listeners just don't give a rat's a$$ about these days. And CC can THANK THEMSELVES for numbing listeners into this mode...giving them schlock, voicetracking, liner cards, non-personalities, national contests, weak formats, insanely long stopsets, and no attention paid to their preferences--particularly on a local level...they certainly asked for this attitude and more.

Yawn...

Hey Robert.... I was right. I win a tshirt. A black and yellow one ;)

Sometimes I wonder why they even use the term "stunting". (I'm sure I'll get an earfull over this. ::) )

An effective stunt would have to be something way out of the ordinary. The last one I rememeber that I considered truly effective, was the computerized countdown prior to "Young Country". If you're just gonna play an entire weekend filled with the same artist, a la KEGL spinning the Eagles, what's the point? That's not exactly an Earth shattering stunt. Neither is playing wall-to-wall Christmas music a whole month, before the flip.

Just my $0.02, for whatever it's worth.

Even has a Jack-like "playing anything..." line and "the station everyone can agree on at work" in there. It's every threadbare liner from the market...

It's probably going to be a station that plays everything country.

Heck why not just shut the station down for a few days. Trust me, THAT will get people talking! ;D

Who owns KEGL? And when you can post the details of the new format here, the flip etc.

Thanks!

Clear Channel does.

And in 7 minutes 12 seconds...
