KEMR

From RadioInsight ...
Martha Whitman’s Iseleta Radio Company sells Silent 1080 KEMR/102.1 K271DC Moriarty NM to Don Davis for $10. Davis owns five other stations around Albuquerque.

BTW, the 1080 is not silnet. It has been re-brodcasting KDLW and KVVD since early May. Last time I looked a few days ago, 102.1 was still silent

I'm pretty sure Martha Whitman is Don Davis's wife ... this isnt the first deal they've done together with radio stations, as I recall.

I think "was" is past tense. I believe she got the station as part of a settlement.

Thank you for the update, but if you're going to copy data from my or any other site please attach a link. The FCC still lists KEMR as silent from their STA filed earlier this year. No Resumption of Operations has been filed yet.

Not copying data off of any site. I push the button for 1080. I hear 1080. I push the button gor 102.1, I hear nothing.

So what's the "From RadioInsight"... above? You copy/pasted the text from my article.

I'm not sure what's going on in the mountains, but the KEMR live stream is up and running playing classic hits with an announcement that mentions that it will play classic hits on the weekdays and oldies on the weekends. I can't really pick anything up on 1080 in NW ABQ. Here's the link: KEMR

Just got back from vacation. Tuned in 1080 and 102.1. For the first time since this saga started, AM and Translator are both up and running and playing something (the same thing) other than Spanish. The translator puts an excellent signal over where I am living. Not sure how this is going to play in ABQ with any leakage back to the West.

I tuned to 102.1 which in my neighborhood is the translator for KNMM 1150 AM (known as "Q102") and while driving it does appear that something keeps interfering with the signal. But if I'm parked or not moving the signal can be heard without any noticeable problems. Not sure how it is affecting the KQUQ-LP neighborhood or if KEMR is heard in the NE heights at all.

Also, in east mountain radio news apparently KANW is now simulcasting on KXNM 88.7 Encino. Did the east mountains just lose their own non-com FM station?

Checked a few minutes ago. KXNM is indeed re-broadcasting KANW. FCC data base shows nothing but I guess if KXNM wants to do this and KANW is amenable, the FCC probably does not care.

Meanwhile, KEMR translator comes in well in the NE heights by Tramway. It also comes in well in downtown Santa Fe. But Radio-Locator shows a CP (on or about July 12th) for K271DC-FM that removes the directional aspects and gives it coverage over all of ABQ. I can't find this in the FCC database, and I doubt that the two stations on 102.1 would sit still for this. So, I have some doubts it exists.

The FCC does not care. Because KXNM is not a translator, they are not required to file with the FCC to state what is being 'translated'. With that said, any agreement with KANW should be placed in the public file less any sensitive information. KANW must be aware of this and approve. I'm sure they're happy with this.

The question is what has this happened? Nobody to manage the station? Board Member problems or mass exodus? Monetary issues? Let's hope this is only temporary.

Went poking around FCCInfo.com for both KANW and KXNM. Nothing in the public files or correspondence files on the simulcast for either. If there is something, it has not yet been digitized.

Did you miss what bturner said? Nothing is required in the public file for this. full powers dont have to have an applicaiton fiuled if theire rebroadcasting someone. if its an lma, yes.. but thisa may not be that. dont expect anything in the public file, as already said

KXNM posted on Facebook:

Dear KXNM Listeners,
It is with some heaviness of heart that we inform you of KXNM's ten years of serving our community coming to an end.
One of Albuquerque's public radio stations, KANW, will step into the broadcasting role.
KANW is dedicated to continuing KXNM's locally relevant programs. It is also particularly interested in reporting emergency events, like wildfires, that affect Central New Mexico.
We are confident that KANW also intends to conduct portions of the broadcast in a manner parallel to the design of KXNM's original founders.
We are grateful for the steadfast support you have graciously given us through the years. Our sincere thanks!
The KXNM Board of Directors X 88.7 FM KXNM

So perhaps a transfer of license could be filed soon. Lately KANW seems take over any struggling non-com station in the state. Last year the New Mexico Highlands station KEDP Las Vegas was transferred to KANW and became a satellite station. However, I don't see how the addition of this station benefits KANW much as most of the coverage area can already pick up 89.1 except maybe the town of Vaughn on the eastern side but only about 400 people live there.

Like I say, I was just poking around to see if there was something in the database. Not expecting to find anything. But it is a surprise to see KANW simulcast. And you are right, they have good coverage out here already.

again, if its an LMA or just a programming change, there is nothing to find in the database .. not required to file that

My best guess at this point is KXNM's board decided to end things but not wanting to abandon their listeners, approached KANW about immediately taking their programming under the condition they donate the station to them.

That is sad to see KXNM go. I had the opportunity to hear the station a few years back driving through New Mexico and I was impressed with what they did, the music mix and information provided. They certainly filed the shoes of what we would have called a local full service small town station.
