Maybe when Ken moves to Miami, he can go on the radio in the afternoons (in the middle of someones show) and talk uncontrollably about some nonsense!

;D

I thought that was his whole schtick with Baker. That and being the 'Trivia Czar'

Think we should warn the good people at Clear Channel's stations in Miami-Fort Lauderdale that Hurricane Ken is heading their way? If he's going to be in a position of authority at those stations, their lives are about to take a turn for the worse. Like a hurricane, he leaves nothing but pain and suffering in his wake wherever he goes.

You will not find one person in Houston radio that has anything positive to say about this guy.

Did you ask around the local gentlemen's clubs? Aside from that one incident, I'm sure he made some friends during the many long years he spent visiting our city.

No need. If they're excited about their new hire, they can't very well listen to you, and if he's being demoted, as many here think, they already know he's not their brightest star. Maybe there's a station in the cluster that needs burning to the ground, and they couldn't think of a better guy to mismanage it to death.

Enough about Ken already...at least from me.

There's such a thing as the Peter Principle; where one "rises" to one's lown evel of incompetence. In Houston, Ken Charles actually did that many times, he was just allowed to get away with it. He had select people conned, fooled. He's a prime example of how ass kissing gets you only so far...talent has to come into play somewhere along the way.

In Houston, Ken just finally ran out of gas....or in his case, ass.

See ya, Ken. Stay gone this time.

Having "retired" from "retail radio" I can write, speak, and yes...think a bit more objectively than I could in 2000 or 2001.

Ken Charles and his ilk are manifestations and symptoms of a much larger disease.

Radio was never a noble profession, but once upon a time it was fun. It was creative, and it was entertaining. Radio is no longer any of those things - not for the employees, and certainly not for the listeners. I call it "The Wal-Mart Syndrome" - package it up as cheaply as possible and sell it in bulk.

The whole "cluster" concept may be great if you are selling cat litter and feminine hygiene products, but when applied to today's radio the term "cluster" seems to be missing a suffix that starts with the letter "F."

And what about the employees of a company that owns 8,627 radio stations? Back at the enormous 1230, Chuck Tiller and I were regularly chafed and/or chapped at something the late Dave Morris had done or said, but at least we knew who to be chafed and/or chapped with. With Clear Channel, and other mega-operators it is not unlike the James Coburn movie "The President's Analyst" where we found that the bad guy was the Phone Company.

So it ain't my problem anymore. At Bill Young Productions I do essentially the same job I did working for radio stations, but for more money, more security, more benefits, better gear...and NO weekends or holidays! ;D

Well said. And when you buy up lots of clusters you have a giant cluster.

(Hey...ya gotta laugh to keep from crying!)
