KEN MATTHEWS found ALIVE

thanks for the info korky...how long do you think the current show will last? anyone else want to weigh in?

I haven't seen a ratings book for this market in a while but from what I hear, Shep and Shelley (?) have delivered a solid showing in key demos. Since the OM is half of the show I think they will be around for at least another 2 or 3 years. I don't listen to the station so I have no idea what they sound like and thus am in no position to critique them. I HAVE overheard a few people (moms at school pick up time) say they listen to the show. Quite frankly, I haven't heard anyone say they are thrilled with any morning show in The Lehigh Valley.

That's a great question, how long will Shep and Shelley last? Their ratings have consistently been in the toilet every single book. When I say toilet I mean a 4 share would be an improvement. But you probably know Shelly is the PD, and she doesn't care about ratings (she is open about that), so who knows?

I've only heard the show a few times, but I can tell you this: The general consensus from listeners I've spoken to, as well as industry people is Shelly=good, Shep=schlub. Their music is improving though, a lot more variety, they sound like B104.

isn't the pd being on the air a conflict of interest caus u all know they won't fire themselves ???

alot of stations do it especially in smaller markets .. laura st. james is the PD at b104 and she does mid-days which is somewhat voice-tracked .. and the night show is voicetracked .. i think everybody on b104 voicetracks even Eric Chase does sometimes .. hell even the afternoon traffic reports are pre-recorded at b104 ..

responding to: making waves, BPSports, Cisco....
re: outpricing, ratings, voicetracking

LEHIGH VALLEY is a top 75 radio market....how many radio salespeople make six-figures or close?

how many radio managers (above PD) make six-figures or close to it? in this market?

these are tough jobs and surprisingly..some of these people are actually worth it.

Are there on-air talent worth more? you bet.

BPSports...you seem like you're in the know...what are the total radio revenue $ in this market? 34 million?
and a part-time on-air person makes less than he or she would get at the GAP or American Eagle or Burger King per hour. ouch.

there are average on air people , good, and great.... the great are worth their weight in $$$.
the same goes for managers and sales people

Voicetracking saves money...if good or great talent does it..that's even better. smart move.

regarding OM/PD's doing live morning shows...not that many of them left.(like the coach trying to quarterback)....but plenty are voicetracking something

and to what BPSport said about a PD not caring about ratings...that's like the coach not caring about scoring.

so if the coach AND the quarterback dont care about scoring, I would think the team owner would be sad

They are great questions.. but don't you think you're straying away from the REAL point on here?

Where does Timmer fit into all of this? THATS what we want to know! :-X

why does the name catfudisgud disturbme so much? lol.

and why can't timmer posts just go away.. kinda like wgpa's listeners

thanks zap..things are going well..my contact info is on both sites...if you want to BOOK ME.

don't fret ken.. in the past 2 years when the stock market was up 15% last yr and up allready an additional 15% this yr.. clear channel is only up 15% in the entire timeframe cause of an internal buyout. not because of performance. and that's caus they can't do any creative accounting to make thier numbers look good with sarbanes-oxley in place ( a reason alot of companies are going private)

but at least its not citadel which in this booming record growing economy is down 73% over that same time frame... i sure hope its not caus of the lehigh valley's management team alone? but some how i doubt with results like that, you won't see many of the managers in place throughout the company for much longer. u know the adage.. money talks.. bs walks.. and the results show there ain't alot of money. i sure hope they don't take thier compensation in stock at least. sheesh.

way more interesting than Cincinnati these days!

Ken...you haven't aged a day in 17 years!
