Kevin LeGrett going home to Rochester

Hey I'm a first time poster!

I actually have the priviledge (and I do mean priviledge) of working for Kevin now that he has come here to Clear Channel Rochester.

He has the ability to fire you up. Being a former athlete myself, Kevin makes me feel like I'm in the locker room hearing a great halftime speech. Is he intense? Yes, and I understand that that isn't for everybody. But so far, I love it.

I just stumbled upon this website and I thought I'd post a comment. Thanks!

Googs0105...that's how we all started. :D
Welcome to B-NF-R!!
This is a tough group...respectable however (always remember that!) From here on, you're on your own! Don't be discouraged!
(being an athlete will help with the work outs you may encounter!)
Looking forward to new contributions.... (ok...any long timers have problems with that? ;D)

That's all

Priviledge. A compound word comprised of privy (an outhouse) and ledge (a narrow shelflike rock projection on a cliff or mountain).

I hope that working for Kevin turns out to be a privilege for you, Googs. I can't help but think that working for Clear Channel will be challenging over the next few years. If you like Kevin's style, maybe it will make it more palatable.

Word is the Cavaliers have Legrett lined-up to file the hole when LeBron James leaves Cleveland.

haha thanks for the love guys.. I see my station has a thread on here "WKGS gets a face-lift" so I'm gonna go comment over there. I love this website!

This really has 0 to do with Kevin LeGretts move to CC but....

This board is sad.
Is there anyone actually IN the business on this board that isn't over 50 years old? Or is everyone just old and fickle?? Unless you're the one still in the trenches making minimum wage, don't piss and moan over the state of the industry, cause you're not in it anymore... You couldn't adapt... Those are the breaks

There are still people in these markets, and in radio in general who are young, care and trying to put on good shows with the hands they are dealt. If you were part of a fire sale or didn't make the recent budget cut, that sucks, but there are people who have... Try celebrating them rather than tearing what's left down...

Well..there's a call to arms. ;D Not touching it (contrary to popular belief) Well, maybe later when the troops arrive! ; ;)

This "new guy" googs needs to do spell check: priviledge is privilege. Unless it's a Freudian slip that gives hint to where he'll be standing after LeGrett shows his true colors

By the way, SSS Kub - I guess you did ADAPT. Here's an earlier post of yours from April 2008:

"If only companies would invest in the talent end in order to provide a unique product that iPods can't replecate... They've shot themselves in the foot by automating everything and running skeleton crews... Radio is still one of the most consumed mediums in the country, theres just nothing happening on it anymore..."

Get serious!

The real sadness is guys like you that are willing to adapt to making minimum wage and then having to take a part-time job or two to support themselves, and possibly, a family just so they can be a "star" on the radio.

Unless, of course as I suspect in your case, you're still living at home with Mom and Dad.

There was a time that I worked for peanuts, put in lots of unpaid overtime, learned my craft, and made more money spinning bars and "mobile DJ" gigs in order to work my way up in the business. I have a lot of respect for young people doing that today.

The problem is that there used to be a place in radio beyond "the trenches making minimum wage". These days, management doesn't value most talent. They prefer iPod radio so they don't have to share the income that pays for their $3,000 suits. It doesn't even matter if revenue drops, as long as it doesn't affect THEIR income.

Good luck, SSSKub, but sooner or later working for peanuts, and getting no respect, gets old - if not for you, for whoever is foolish enough to marry you. The prospects for moving up these days are dimmer than any time in memory. I hope that there will be a turnaround in the attitude toward talent, and that the suits will realize that radio can't succeed as "somebody else's iPod". It will require some operators to kick some serious ass using local talent for that to happen, but there are fewer opportunities than ever for that to happen.

"I hope that there will be a turnaround in the attitude toward talent, and that the suits will realize that radio can't succeed as "somebody else's iPod"."

Stations that re-invest in personality and programming, and rise up the ratings ladder, give me hope. But station groups that don't change their business plans and continue to program like iPods with commercials even after they flirt with Chapter XI (or actually go there) make me wonder if there's a genuine businessperson in any of those front offices--or just people who milk the stations for all the cash flow they can get, then take the money and run leaving an empty shell of a station cluster behind them. Back in the day, we'd call that misappropriation of funds and we'd see anything from lawsuits to fraud trials--look what happened to the Rigases from how they ran Adelphia. But it seems that these days, if you file a credible income tax return, you can dio anything including drain the productive talent and use the company like an ATM.

I'm 27, male, and "in the business" if that helps. And sometimes I misspell words. I may have even just misspelled "misspell".

And here's a scoop for all my fellow radio dorks.. Today just after 5pm I'll be announcing who our new night guy is on 106.7 KISS-FM. He's local to Rochester. He'll be live every night starting tonight.

Jesus, Look at all the cry babies come out...

Yup... I'm just a wannabe radio star boo hoo...

My point was that not EVERYone is making minimum wage in this business but you have to pay your dues now. As opposed to when people were throwing money around like it was nothing. But way to mine my old posts to find something, shows your dedication, good for you.

Am I happy with radio? Nope, do I sit and bitch about how "great it used to be" though?? No way in hell... I would rather find boards on this site that enjoy discussing how great radio still CAN be. But go ahead, cry more about how radio is dead, Yougoidar... I hope that makes pencil pushing that much more satisfying

Radio board? Some of us post here because it's free and beats $125 per session at Dr. Meinschwans' radio asylum. Gotta go now. Mother just cooked pot roast and she gets very upset whenever guests are late to the table.

One last thing for Yougoidar...

Do you see Slick Tom on here complaining??? And he has a RIGHT to complain
The reason you don't him residing on message boards bitching and moaning is because he's still trying to ADAPT and make money doing what he has always done, and what he is good at. Is he making as much money now? Not even close, is he rolling over and dying because "the worlds not fair" Nope. He's exploring the boundaries of the medium using the internet to his advantage. Not all of us still in the business "Live with Mommy and Daddy" and your defeatist attitude is the reason I left Buffalo years ago... Too many people walking with that on their backs, it shows in this board at times too... Not every poster is this way, but the people like Yougoidar just put a sour taste in my mouth. I love Buffalo, and would like to work in the market again... I miss the city more than the radio landscape. Believe me there are greener pastures in radio, but I still pop on here and read things to see whats going on in my hometown and I just had to speak up because it's just sad the way some of you are...

No crying here...no pushing pencils, either.

Kub, I hope you're given the opportunity and have the talent to make GREAT RADIO. That's just what we oldtimers here on the board would love to see and hear again. And, I hope you make boatloads of money at it.

Just remember this - You, too will be joining our "Over 50" club some day - you can't get around it no matter how hard you try.

I see some of the troops have gathered. ;D

I'm not even "using quotes" here...because I knew where this was going.

I lied ..I'm using one

Sometimes, less said is more.

How it gets there, is in the hands of the followers...who have no leaders.

Um, I'm not sure "that's all"
