Kevin & Sluggo Cut At KLOS

Meruelo would rather sell at a loss, like he did with channel 22. Turning in the license nets him zero.

You mean, whenever they got around to holding an auction.

Here's a scenario that I think they might actually be considering in that "media center" on Pico Blvd,: Once they have gotten rid of the last live person on KLOS, they move KDAY to 95.5 and keep running the KLOS format as a jukebox on the 93.5 pairs while they look for some sucker who will pay more than they are worth.

And that will be their fatal error, because KLOS' billings are what's paying the bills for all four of their stations.
Some folks have claimed Power 106 remains an impressive biller (ranking wise) despite their substandard ratings.

I have no idea if that is indeed the case.

My sense (and I have no proof) is that they're fighting the same battle Cumulus fought against iHeart and Audacy, and are getting killed.

Glancing at the KCAL-FM playlist the other day, I’d tune into KLOS way more often if they sounded like them
I am the opposite unlike kcal fm playlist alot more then Klos. Less classic rock more current rock please Klos. Klos use to have a 90s block of music at night bring that back. The station has been gutted n it's very sad😭😭😭

I know for whatever reason Active Rock isn't the format it once was, but I'd prefer a KCAL-like option when KROQ and KYSR are playing Outkast or Eminem or Billie Eilish or any of that new TikTok popternative. I'd say Merulo must be happy with KLOS to keep it the way it is but... are they? Granted, the only changes we've seen have been the reduction in airstaff, no change at all in the music mix.

They should tweak the format and get back KNAC. It has a loyal following play 80's 90's and 2000 songs

I'd say your suggestion entails a lot more than a "tweak". :)

1. Somehow convince LBI to sell the core station in their only revenue-producing trimulcast in the market to another owner (who, I have no idea, and I bet James doesn't either).
2. Drop the Spanish-language programming in a market which is roughly one-half Hispanic, according to the 2020 Census.
3. Go back in time when heavy metal had a radio audience (I will remind James that KNAC gave way to Que Buena over 29 years ago).

Can I interest you in my new "When Pigs Fly" format?

I am all for bringing back Pirate Radio, but they have to bring Scott Shannon too, otherwise that isn't what it is. (Yes, I know this will never happen, this is just a theater of the mind thing at this point).
When Pirate Radio debuted, I was at just the right age to be completely bowled over by it and promptly called the request line to enthusiastically beg for a bumper sticker. The jock who answered said, "HOW ABOUT 500 OF THEM!??!" A few days later, UPS dumped a manila envelope as thick as a phone book at my parents' side door. I guess they were trying to get every kid in southern California to go full "El Barto" and plaster their mark on every vertical surface between heaven and hell.

KJLH? The station Stevie Wonder can't see, and the rest of us can't hear? ;)
Actually, KJLH has a decent signal in the HDBA's in the market, and that is enough to sustain it.

And that station almost cost Norm Pattiz his Westwood One empire as it was such a huge failure.

I'm sure even Shannon would rather forget that one...

Hmnmmmm. Kinda' sounds desperate, doesn't that?

The combined Hip Hop and Reggaetón audience on the two rhythmic stations is a big package sale. Add in the classic urban secondary signal and they actually generate good sales on those three. The one that does not fit the rest is KLOS.

My sense (and I have no proof) is that they're fighting the same battle Cumulus fought against iHeart and Audacy, and are getting killed.
But iHeart has no Hispanic station.... Meruelo has three.

In that case, they're getting killed by Univision.
Not really. While KLVE has been relatively stable, KSCA and the Recuerdo Twins are off a lot. The Meruelo stations deliver very good Hispanic 18-34, which the Univsion stations fall way short on. We have to remember that Power has always primarily been an Hispanic station in a market that is over 50% Hispanic in under-39 demos and only about 8% Black.
Meruelo's highest rated station is KLOS and it's basically a single station competing against the clusters of iHeart and Audacy.
But the issue here is that Meruelo's strength is ethnic. There is a lot of speculation as to whether KLOS will last, in fact. With Urban and Hispanic and ethnic crossover expert Pio Ferro now at Meruelo, we might see further changes.

That would be interesting. Would they blow up their highest rated station? Maybe that's what they're in the process of doing.
