KEXX Goes Adult Hits

I listened for about one hour today...I like it...good 35-54 year old male music in my opinion.
Not as good as KVIT, but it will be my 2nd fav....lol

Forgive me as I've enjoyed a few drinks, but really??? I enjoy KVIT, but find NOTHING appealing about this new format on 103.9 (surely you jest)...and futhermore, I find it insulting for them to actually believe that this is something that I (as a 40-year-old GEN X-er) would enjoy or want to hear. Did these people even grow up in the 80's themselves? Most of the songs remind me of things I wish to FORGET about the 80's/early 90's.

Don't know about K-Slacks, but it's a mandatory daily for KOOL.

And Eva, and Mega.

It would be interesting to see the songs that cross over among Eva, Mega, KOOL, K-Slacks, Peak, Mix, KEZ, and any other station going after these demos.

I rest my case.

Goodnight, everyone. ;)

You are putting together different conversations that are not connected. For the rest of the world who knows nothing of this old buried topic, I was speaking of a Party type old school format, which does not exist in this market. Wow, you must be bored...Nice try.

But I wasn't. I was talking about classic / old school / back in the day formats in general.

Therefore, my case remains at rest... kind of like the old 103.9

Unfortunately, what most people think is "cool" are the minority.

One thing PPM has shown is that niche formats are having major problems. Alternative is more mainstream in some markets than others (I'm talking about PPM not diary). Niche formats had much better success in diary because their passionate listener base voted for them. Not the case in the meter that shows real listening.

In a market like Phoenix, Alternative was somewhat of a fringe format. Zone really had its best numbers when Howard was on.

A signal like 103.9 needs to find something that drives ATE - and Alternative is a moderate cume low ATE format - hence the results. Formats like Classic Hits, AC, Adult Hits, Classic Rock tend to draw 30%-50% more ATE than Top 40, Alternative, et al.

The Alternative and Smooth Jazz listeners don't have a leg to stand on. If they actually listened to the station and supported it, then they'd still be on the air. They voted for them in diary, but never actually listened come meter time.

All true. However, it still doesn't explain why a station that is supposedly built around Generation X's "stories" of *their* own songs would be playing The Rolling Stones' "Start Me Up," which I'm pretty sure came out long before the 1980's. I know there are people related to the flip who have feelings, but c'mon... anyone involved with such a boneheaded decision should REALLY be hanging their head in shame. The word "trainwreck" does not even begin to cover it.

you're pretty sure? I'm afraid not.

My demonstrated ignorance on the matter (for which I make no apology) is evidence that I'm a Generation X'er. They also played "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas, which - just fact-checked it - is from 1976. Definitely not the 1980's. Definitely not a song that many X'ers have a "story" about.

"Start Me Up" came out in 1981, on Tattoo You. It was a staple on early MTV.

I digress...and this is the last time I can let myself comment on KEXX...if any Riviera mgmt are reading this...what a bummer today was for me! Saturdays are always errand days, where I spend a lot of time in the car. Today, I drove around like a zombie, with nothing to listen to. I'm not a drama queen...but this was more upsetting to me than any radio change in the last couple years.

Sorry, but you've really disappointed a lot of people.

Wow and I thought I was getting old! Just kidding 8)

But I know I am usually the exception. I discovered music way too early. Born too late as many say.

Well, you ARE getting old. 8) 8) ;D

I am happy I got to enjoy the 80's music (never was a big 70's fan). I think that I truly enjoyed the late 80's/early 90's the best (radio-wise). However, I certainly enjoyed early and mid 80's music from Yaz(oo) (Only You is quite the underrated song), Depeche Mode, Heaven 17, Kissing the Pink (KTP), Section 25, etc.

You guys were just young 5 year old whippersnappers in 1981...I was a decrepit 11 year old! ;D

And the day that MTV premiered was THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!!
When I saw Pat Benatar sing "You Better Run"...it was on like donkey kong!!!

No that was me. 2son was 5 in 1976 (which is his story about the Kansas song). I still remember the song however. My folks were pretty hip until I discovered 2 Live Crew

Yeah, my story...
