KFBK Morning News opening

It seems as though Clear Channel is looking outside the building for the position.

Though a source told my friend that Phil Cowan was approached about the job...

Trust me, they didn't "settle," if you're implying they settled for less. They didn't. The matter is settled as far as the speculation on this board is concerned. No one here has guessed correctly.

Okay kinetic, I'll bite. How 'bout this for a guess. 'BK is going with an experienced radio news anchor from back East that's been itching to move to the Left Coast. He's good and he impressed the suits.

How about "who cares." They'll just end up like the rest of the :) happy people that walk into that building. Unsuspecting broadcasters enter :D, excited and happy ;D about their careers, are put through the Cheap Channel Smile Eliminator  (aka any length of time working for them), and then are spit out on the other side, fully transformed ???. If they made a movie about it they could call it "Saw 5- The Clear Channeling." Whoever they pick won't be there long. No one ever is, except for the real masochists.

That role is not just relegated to Clear Channel, the other big owners often (not always but often) treat people/talent the way they do elements of a station (jingles, imagers, etc...).

It all depends who you work for and where you work for CC, the properties carry the same mandates, but the leadership, and how those mandates are carried out are often up to the one running the local cluster.

I have been on both sides of the CC world, good treament at some clusters, bad at others. The difference was the GM and/or PD at each...the decent/better ones understood human capital.

Also, my source got word to me the New Anchor for AM Drive is from the East Coast (he thinks NY). Whether that is relevant or not, who knows.

Sorry Mom

Too many years in the biz, never worried about spelling unless the copy was co-op. :D

The opening is filled. The talent is Ed Crane, former CBS Radio Network News anchor
from New York. Ed will start Monday February 11th, ending CC Sac's infatuation
with non radio talent in it's male anchor chair. Good luck Mr Crane.

Amen to that!

I heard RE Graswich has not lived up to expectations...can that be surprising to anyone...except CC Sacramento folk?

Ed Crane

Hello Sacramento...from a fellow who was born in Stockton, grew up in Farmington...and went to high school in Escalon.

You are going to love Ed Crane.

I've had the pleasure of working with Ed at WCBS. He is smart...he can write...and he is an excellent communicator. In other words, he talks to the listener...he doesn't "read to them."

He's done business news...so, he understands what's going on in the financial world these days, and how it affects real people like you and me. You don't have to worry about Ed referring to the "mortgage crisis" in shallow terms - he knows what it means, and he knows how to explain it.

He is a very nice man...a devoted husband and father.

And, that voice. Oh man, that voice.

Ed has a lot of respect for the heritage of KFBK. He is not taking this new position lightly.

New York's loss is Sacramento's gain.
