KFI fired up IBOC (HD) today.

HD-AM is a disaster per what I've read on the HD boards on this site. Is HD-FM still a viable and marketable product? I've yet to shake hands with the a person that owns a hybrid receiver. I love radio but I'm not chomping at the bit to search out and find a receiver (unlike a DTV to analog converter). Every radio HD subchannel I've ever heard has been primarily thought the internet and even then I'm not listening much. If one of the HD streams disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't miss a beat to find an alternative that does.

HD AM is a total disaster. It causes more problems than it solves. My HD radio is sitting in the closet collecting dust.

Great discussion on 640/92.3. Why not now? Anyway here is another interesting note since the start of this thread. The AM IBOC on 640 lasted just a few hours until about the four-o-clock hour on Friday last. Since then nothing. The HD2 spot ... well in fact all IBOC is gone from 92.3 for days that I know of.

Check tomorrow. HD likely will be back.

It is; I heard Gary Hoffman on my radio when the signal locked in at 5:03 this morning. No text, just KFI and then "News" in the text zone. I checked when Bill Handle was on ... still "news".

I heard / saw this in San Diego 92110.

David, your crystal ball is flawless.

Well, to my surprise I am receiving KFI
in HD here in Sherman Oaks.
The only other AM local HDs I
have ever gotten on this SONY
are KSPN, KABC, and KNX.
Also have received
KSL-and-KFBK in digital.
Now strangley each time the Jewish 92.1
pirate is off, 92.3 HD is back.
While this SONY is quite selective,
an HD hash will clobber a signal
.2 away. Another example,
I can only hear the 103.3
in SB when KOST HD is off

Chime...Can you tell us more about this 92.1 station. Have not heard of it, and cannot receive it here as I am south of LA. How long has it been around, how strong is the station's signal, what is the programming like?

Well, Rimember, you ask about the 92.1?
I think the station has been on-and-off
around 1month, stronger in
Westwood. I have never gooten
it in stereo.
Programming is quite Jewish, lots of
Israeli-and-riligious music, some recorded
talks, promos for local events.
The station runs no audio on the
Sabbath, as well as Jewish Holidays.
While I cannot give you its
web-site, some1 on the
fmtv dx list from wtfda posted
more about this.
Hope that helps

KFI's HD was so bad the other day, I had to change the station. It sounded all distorted with this popping and dreadful harsh squealing on the highs. I couldn't tell if it was some sort of digital over-modulation, or what. Never heard anything like it before.

Incidentally, one day last week, I couldn't hear any of the local analog AM signals. I mean all local analog stations were completely wiped off the dial. It must have been some weird atmospheric condition, because I could hear Spanish on 980 analog (Mexico?) But the minute the HD locked in, I could hear KFWB and the other AM-HDs perfectly.

That's the "extended fidelity" AM mode. Much better than having to put up with static, isn't it?
;)

Well KFI's IBOC was turned off last night and is still off at this time. The filter is still on reducing the higher end requency response but it still sounds better.

All this week during Handel they must have been adjusting or tuning the antenna because the signal kept going off like it does on KGIL when they change power and pattern. I suspect they have been having problems even with the new tower. They had to leave it off while the backup was in use so they might be back on the auxiliary to work on tuning the main stick.

KFI fired up IBOC (HD) today...... Again!!

Yes the IBOC is back today on KFI complete with the wonderful hash on the sidebands .... Should make about 20 people happy in SoCal ;)

So, I guess they got the Nautel to play nice with the HD equipment.

Ah yes, that wonderful hash on the sidebands is gone and the fidelity (on any analog radio) is improved. Yes this is the thread that keeps getting resurrected... Wish the IBOC would be dead and gone for good....
