KFI Major Schedule Change Starting Tomorrow

You didn't catch the whole bit.....

Conway had taken John and Ken's coverage of the Idaho killer and their description of the guy and the alleged scenario what led to the arrest of Bryan Christopher Kohberger and cleverly edited what they said as though they would be talking about Conway. I heard the original John and Ken bit speaking directly about Kohberger. Then on COnway's show, that is when he presented the re-edited version in jest.

I don't think the Leno comment about John and Ken was bad at all. It is true...John and Ken drone on about city council issues, homeless stuff, immigration, etc. I think it was neither here nor their.

That's what I used to think about Leno.

It was definitely not in jest. Go to the podcast page:

Go to 12/26/22 Hour 4, at 20:30 in:

LENO: "I love it when you fill in because, again, it's not all about the LA City Council every day. Thanks for doing interesting topics."

Can you imagine if a guest on the Jay Leno Show had said something like that to a fill-in host?

Shoot, I hadn't considered that. John is in his early 60s; Ken is solidly in his mid-60s. Perhaps Ken is planning to retire at 67?
I'm not trying to start any rumors or anything, but they're roaring up on 30 years there (minus that year or whatever at KABC). You have to at least consider succession.

What does that have to do with anything?

I think most people would agree that it's fine to express such an opinion anywhere but on the hosts' own show. That's just incredibly rude.

It's interesting too that during the interview Mo Kelly, to his credit, asked Leno about the state of comedy today. Much has been said about how careful comedians need to be these days so as not to possibly upset anyone. Leno replied that the state of comedy is just fine.

I'd say that Jay Leno is way out of touch.

Jay has made a wonderful living by not overthinking issues.

My favorite is still the time some out-of-town morning radio team got his home phone number and woke him at 6:00 a.m. about 30 years ago.

"Hey, Jay! It's (name) and (name) from (call letters)!"

"Oh----two guys sharing a brain cell."

You're talking about the 6+ numbers. The bulk of the audience is over 55. That audience becomes harder to sell, and there's an expiration date.

At some point, they need to think about the future of the station, and the future of talk radio.
102.7 kfi fm coming in 2023. It’s time

But that was then. This is now.

Yeah. But Jay's career doesn't depend on attracting new audiences. He (and for that matter, Jerry Seinfeld) are just gonna do what they do until they stop doing it. Unless they Louis CK or Bill Cosby themselves, they can coast on the fanbase they built 30 years ago.

First people say iheart needs to think about the future and attract a younger demo for Kfi. Fine but then someone says Kfi 102.7 and that frequency as is does attract the younger demo. That's just fantasy thinking Kfi 102.7 Will never happen I don't think and certainly not on 102.7. You had to mean that as a joke right?

Patrick, you gotta know when they are trolling you!

iHeart has the most successful line up of FM stations in LA.

KOST #1
KBIG #4
KIIS #7
KRRL #12
KYSR #16 tie (but higher among young men)

This is why, even if iHeart wanted to give an FM simulcast to KFI or Sports KLAC, which station would you sacrifice? It wasn't a hard decision for Audacy to sacrifice KAMP/KNOU when its Top 40 numbers never improved, to become KNX-FM. But what FM station would flip to KFI-FM?

Will the FCC eventually relax the maximum ownership numbers? iHeart is currently at the max with five FM stations. Yet it's becoming harder to have a successful station on the AM band. Every year, listeners who might be open to tuning to AM radio check out, and younger listeners who don't even know where the AM-FM switch is on their radio replace them. It makes KFI's #2 finish more amazing.

In 25-54 in pre-Santathon November, #1 is KBIG, #3 is KOST, #5 is KYSR, #10 is IKIIS #12 is KRRL

In 18-34 it is #1 KYSR, #2 KRRL, #3 KOST #4 KBIG and #5 KIIS

Even as the 18-34 use of radio deteriorates... a gradual process to be sure... iHeart has a magnificent position to present to advertisers with a variety of packaging options if a client is more male or female focused.

KFI in November in 25-54 was 18th. They move up to 6th in 36-64. For local agency accounts and local direct they have very decent numbers in very salable demos.

The median age for the KFI audience is 59. Which is coincidentally the age of it's new afternoon drive host.

People who are 30 now will listen to kfi in 20-30 years. Am isn’t just going to “die.” There will always be a need for am talk. New generations of people will always listen. There’s no need to flip any of the i heart fm stations to sports or talk in la. They will be fine.
