KFNN 1510 Gone Silent?

The afternoon show

Driving It Home with Patti Vasquez

is on KKNW 1150 Seattle. Pretty good show.
Thanks for the recommendation as I have started listening to her show on KKNW. Its pretty interesting. They air it 12-2 am and 10-12 pm weekdays on a one day delay. The show is kind of pretty Chicago centric topic wise even though it also airs in two other markets, Minnesota being the other market besides Seattle.

Looks like KQFN 1580 has returned to the air today as a simulcast of KMLE-HD3 "Mega 99.3". They appear to be running at full power.

Is the HD3 carring the same programming? I think the purpose of the purchase was to stop paying a lease fee for whatever fed the translator

When you think about...

The Valley has quite a few AM's that are playing music:

KNAI/KOY/KBSZ/KXEG/KSUN/KAZG/KQFN

Even though we know the real purpose is to feed the FM.. it's still interesting.

Some of them have "flea-power" translators that only cover a small portion of the Phoenix area, so they're not necessarily broadcasting on the AM dial in vain.

At least one of those could dump the AM and the translator would be legally allowed to stay on and i do it they’d lose any listeners lacking an AM signal

You accidently missed one: KIKO AM also in A.J. It was doing Classic Country. Not sure now though.
KIKO dropped Classic Country for Talk, around the same time that KBSZ became Urban AC.

That would be KAZG. The only reason they hang on to 1440 is for overflow sports.

BTW, the website for The Rattler is still up and running. With that same Len Novin interview with Whitesnake. Lol.

Sorry but I would have to disagree with both of you about this one. While KAZG's translator can be heard in most of the valley, it cannot be heard *very* well in most of the valley. Part of this is because in north central Phoenix, the translator for 1480 at 92.9 dominates over 92.7 on many radios. The second reason for this is that the Phoenix metro area is so large that, even if KAZG's translator was able to find a better perch to transmit from, there would still be portions of the Phoenix area that it would be unable to cover.

coverage vs.. how many listen to the AM?

Translator 92~Seven actually belongs to KDKB. Their HD~Two simulcasts Lumberyard 14~Forty, which is marketed as "Oldies 92~Seven".

92~Nine is 3 watts from Shaw Butte. 92~Seven is 250 watts from Lookout Mtn. Maybe the owners of KPHX misread the power of their translator and think it's 300 watts?

To put another hole in this theory. The better coverage for the AM disappears after sunset (especially now after the lamptimer era!). I would take the 92.7 signal any day over 1440 AM. For a 250 watt translator, it has very good coverage. And of course , the HD2 coverage goes without saying. With that said, I hope Lumberyard 1440 continues to have a long life, even if it means forming "The Lumberyard 1440 and Lamptimer Preservation Society". 😁

Per every source I can find, K224CJ (KDKB-HD2) 92.7 is on South Mountain, between the KTVK and KPAZ-TV towers.

There are several low-powered stations/translators on 92.9, not to mention the country station in Tucson that covers much of the East Valley. Not only the KPHX peanut-whistle on Shaw Butte, but KDWR, a religious LPFM on Cave Creek Rd. a bit south of the 101, as well as a proposed LPFM on the Salt River Reservation that may or not be built (no call letters assigned, a year and a half after the CP was granted). I can receive all of them at one time or another in NE Mesa, and they do mess up KAZG 92.7 in my area at times.
