This class D station (1510kHz) w/ only 100W at night yet 22.5kW day faces major issues with programming decisions during Critical hours and overnight. It is unfortunate to have Clark Howard and Bruce Williams relegated to the overnights at 100W. And, Moe Ansari's 5pm-6pm Marketwrap over the FCC sunset.
Many programs have issues during critical hours - and even during midday in the fringe areas - that of course encompasses a longer period of time in winter. Weekends with Bob Brinker can be problematic with a music station interfering, even in the 2pm hour.
Perhaps w/ the downgrading of Spokane, the station could consider and upgrade to 50kW directional day, 35kW critical hours, and perhaps 1000 watts at night, all with a new 6 or 8 directional array closer to downtown, instead of the 4 towers near the Sonoran Desert Preserve well north of town and even north of the 101.
The old KFNN tower site could be sold to 1100 KFNX, another problem as their towers are along Carefree Highway near Cave Creek, 30 miles north of Tempe and Phoenix. Since KFNX is also class D, there is no need to cover the entire city of license (Cave Creek) with 5mV/m at night. I don't know if the KFNN site would cover Cave Creek at night at 1100kHz.
Thoughts?
