KFOX PD Garner Goin Exits

Either Bone or K-Fox needs to budge. One of these two stations should evolve to a broad-based Mainstream Rock format. The amount of music they play that is more than 30 years old is unbelievable.

I would very much like to see Cumulus evolve The Bone into something that resembles the new sound of Rock 100.5 in Atlanta.

Mainstream rock? Is there any mainstream rock anymore? Rock has become a niche area; hip-hop and Nashville country seem to be the order of the day.

And apparently Garner Goin was quite well-respected within the building, though apparently less so with the folks to whom he reported. That's never good, but maybe a future employer will see a glimmer of hope in that observation. Hoping for good news about his landing a new gig. Anybody got info?

I for one think he had a valid plan when it came to broadening the scope of what's termed "classic rock." And perhaps just not enough time to see his vision through.

Garner, don't stop goin'...one day somebody will get it that we don't all want the Journey "catalog" to be limited to two power-testing ginormous hits with allegedly universal appeal. Nobody wants to hear a parade of stiffs either, but I think you had a grip on balance that few do.

This morning K-Fox played that godawful Kid Rock song that samples "Sweet Home Alabama". Yeah, I realize The Bone plays that one too and so do a lot of Classic Rock stations that are trying to sound "younger" (even tho' it's the only Kid Rock track they play). Still, it's a terrible record and a dealbreaker for me. Instant station-changer.

Sounds like panic time at Entercom. Down the hall KOIT has dropped Lite Rock Less Talk.

In another thread 95.7 The Game's future is in doubt. KFOX is flailing about and KOIT appears to be swirching format from Lite Rock. What is going on? Dwight Walker was once well respected when running KFOG and KNBR. Maybe he wasn't the reason for the sucess ther. Maybe he was just lucky. Is he just inlucky now?

How is KOIT "switching formats," other than dropping that moldy old "Lite Rock, Less Talk" slogan they've been pounding to death for 3 decades? I hadn't listened in awhile, so I tuned in yesterday for awhile. It sounds the same to me, musically. As for including more mainstream (non-"lite") rock, they've been doing that for years. I remember being surprised in the early aughts when I heard a Springsteen song on KOIT.

In the 70s and perhaps 80s, "Lite" meant Barry Manilow and that ilk, but the defnition of "Lite Rock" (if you can pin it down) has been less lite for years.

Of course it is Dwight Walker's fault. He is an expensive suit who meddles in everything. Someday Entercom will figure out that he is the problem.

But by that time, will it be too late?

Dwight is actually a good manager with lots of connections in the market that transfer into business. You may need to blame some of the programming mistakes on the people who are higher up at Entercom.

The new K-FOX PD made a change:

Annalisa does mornings 5a-9a takes a 3 hour commercial free break and does noon to 1p
Big Rick now has an elongated shift 1p-7p moving Laurie Roberts to weekends.

Wasn't Laurie Roberts voice tracking from home? Things must be pretty bad if Entercom can't even afford that.

apparently Annalisa is doing an "all-request lunch hour" thing. How many of those requests are off-the-beaten-path and how many are "classics" the station plays 20 times a week remains to be seen. A better idea would've been an hour-long "Radio Rewind" -- the feature she did the first couple of months on the morning show; songs from a specific year plus appropriate news/TV/movie clips. Yes, very much like 10@10, but she's damn good at that sorta thing.
