They played a song by Tavares, which is fine, but then a few minutes later, I hear, "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin????
You just would not hear that on KRTH or WCBS? Someone needs to get in there and fine tune the music selections!! KRTH plays a wide variety of stuff without making the mistake of playing out of format.....It's a very fine line, but it's crucial. The person that listens to Tavares, most likely, is not going to stick around for Whole Lotta Love....that's over the top variety and it spells.....very few longer term listeners.

They were doing a radio-a-thon to raise money for Christopher Rodriguez, the 10 year-old Oakland boy who was hit in the back by a stray bullet.

That for sure is not their regular programming. You'd won't hearing "Whole Lotta Lovin'" on KFRC for a long time again. I heard Dave Sholin give a recap of the radio-a-thon, going into the evening. That must've been a long day for him.

According to monitors, KFRC has played "Whole Lotta Love" twice a week for the past 90 days, if not longer.
One of many of KFRC's problems is the wrong music mix.

How do you know it's the wrong mix -- because you don't like it? SF is not LA or NY. Regional tastes vary. The Bay Area is home to everything from thrash metal to two bluegrass festivals. I happen to think "Whole Lotta Love" is an appropriate song for an oldies station to play. I remember when it came out. It was ubiquitous around here. Budding guitarists were trying to play the riffs on "Whole Lotta Love" just as much as they were on "Sunshine of Your Love".
djtalker said:Yes, a sad sounding radio station. I think it's well overdue to bring back Chris Edwards and his time-machine. Rumor is that he's in the building and fine-tuning the machine. He certainly deserves the opportunity! What to put around him? That is the question! There isn't much left.
